Area archers compete at state

DES MOINES — The area’s high school archers gathered for the 2023 Iowa state tournament over the weekend, as archers competed in both the Bullseye State Tournament and the 3D State Tournament.
Area schools Washington, Mid-Prairie and Cardinal were all in action as thee teams battled for supremacy.
The Demon archery team had its best score in the Bullseye tournament. Freshman Josh Anderson scored 288 on the tournament to place 10th out of 371 high school boys.
Jonathan Moore sneaked into the Top-30 with a 29th-place 284. Cash Pepper was 42nd with a 281.
The leading Washington girl in the Bullseye competition was Madison Conway, who shot 279 for 43rd place out of 370 high school girls shooting. Allison Rees finished at 277, for 56th and Lily Brown was 63rd, with a 277.
In the 3D competition, it was senior Hayden Janecek who led the Demons with a 276. That placed her 34th overall out of 162 girls shooting. The next girl down the list was Rees, who finished 70th.
Moore was the top Washington boy in the 3D competition, shooting 272, for 52nd. Tyler Alderton shot 272 as well, but finished with three less Tens than Moore. He wound up in 60th. Brian Fritz scored 271, for 62nd.
Mid-Prairie’s Elijah Statler took 75th in the high school boys Bullseye competition with a 278. He was the only Mid-Prairie archer in the Top 100.
The top Golden Hawk girl was Allie Whetstine, who shot a 271, for 110th.
Statler was 41st in the boys D competition, finishing with a final score of 275. Caiden Sellers took 70th, with a 269.
Whetstine shot 269 in the 3D competition to finish 63rd on the girls’ side. Josee Mueller was 79th, with a 265.
The Cardinal girls’ team showed out in the Bullseye tournament, as Briana Clark and Cameraon Wheaton each finished in the Top-30. Clark shot 284 for 14th, and Wheaton shot 282, for 26th.
Addison Rupe sneaked into the Top-100 as well in the Bullseye competition, scoring 273.
In the 3D competition, Paityn Carnes shot a 278, which put her in 27th. Rupe shot 270, for 56th. Cassidy Brown shot a 270, for 61st, and Haylee Fountain was 73rd, with a 266.
The top Cardinal boy was Deagon Eakins, who took 107th in the 3D shot. His final score was 263.
