Area athletes display talents at Demon Relays
Several area teams were in action on Thursday night at the Demon Relays in Washington.
Fairfield won the girls? portion of the meet, while Mt. Pleasant won the boys? meet title, but area teams were able to finish high.
On the girls? side of the meet, Washington finished in third, while Columbus took fifth, Highland took fifth and WACO took seventh.

Several area teams were in action on Thursday night at the Demon Relays in Washington.
Fairfield won the girls? portion of the meet, while Mt. Pleasant won the boys? meet title, but area teams were able to finish high.
On the girls? side of the meet, Washington finished in third, while Columbus took fifth, Highland took fifth and WACO took seventh.
For the boys, Mid-Prairie took second, while WACO took sixth, Highland and Washington took seventh and Columbus finished in ninth place.

Mid-Prairie
The Golden Hawk boys continued their strong season with a second-place finish at the Demon relays.
Leading the way were a pair of titles in the field events, won by junior Levi Duwa.
Duwa threw 50 feet-5.75 inches in the shot put and 150 feet ? 2 inches in the discus to win both events.
Mid-Prairie was also paced by Peyton Miller?s performances on the track, claiming an 800-meter individual title (2:09.52) and placing second in the 400-meter dash (52.46).
Luke Sigler took second in the 1600-meter run (4:51.21), while Cary Schaeffer placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.26 seconds.
Mid-Prairie?s sprint medley team of Braeden Nielson, Keaton Duwa, Floyd Evans and Andrew Schwartz also placed second at the meet with a time of 3:56.88.
The Mid-Prairie boys will run next at Wapello on Tuesday.
Mid-Prairie?s girls? team was not at the Demon Relays.
Columbus
Shania Boyd helped lead the Wildcat girls? track team to a fifth-place finish at the Demon Relays, winning the long jump (16 feet) and placing second in the 100-meter dash (13.61) and the 100-meter hurdles (17.42) on the day.
Trailing Boyd was Anna Hamilton, who took second in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet ? 2 inches.
Columbus? sprint medley team of Courtney Zaehringer, Denise Perez, Angie Byas and Bailey Stroud won the meet title in the event with a 2:01.53.
On the boys? side of the meet, Mauricio Ramirez earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (11.53) and the long jump to help pace the Wildcats.
Abel Mena placed third in the 400-meter dash (54.46) on the day, while Devon Henry took fourth in the high jump (5 feet ? 6 inches) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (25.20).
The Wildcat boys will run at Wapello on Tuesday, while the girls will be at Fort Madison.
Highland
The Highland girls? track team was led by Bailey Harmston?s third-place finish in the high jump (4 feet ? 8 inches) and fourth-place finish (1:16.04) in the 400-meter hurdles on the day.
Freshman Aly Stokes earned a third-place finish in the long jump (15-02.00), while helping the Highland 4x200-meter relay team of Cheyann Adamson, Sydney Black and Sarah Schneider to a second-place finish (1:57.19).
On the boys? side, Keiffer Sexton claimed meet titles in the 1600- (4:46.68) and 3200-meter runs (10:08.44).
The Highland 4x400-meter relay team of James McPherson, Jake Wood, Caleb Brase and Sexton also claimed second place (3:44.21) in the meet, falling to Mt. Pleasant by one second.
Highland?s boys? and girls? teams will be running at Lone Tree on Monday night.
WACO
The WACO girls? track team was led by a third-place finish from Halle Kissell in the 400-meter dash (1:06.27), while Kasey Sutton took third in the 100-meter hurdles (17.51).
Sutton, Clara Schmitz, Kiana Miller and McKenna White also combined for a third-place finish in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:17.54.
For the boys, senior Bryce Achen won the 200-meter dash (23.34), took second in the 100-meter dash (11.52), and third in the 110-meter hurdles (17.49).
Behind Achen in the hurdles was Beau Beckler, who finished fourth in the event with a 17.80.
Both WACO teams will be in action on Monday at Lone Tree.
