Area athletes participate in Summer Iowa Games

A number of local athletes received medals in the 2012 Summer Iowa Games, powered by the Iowa Food and Family Project.

The summer event featured over 14,000 athletes from across the state.

Mt. Pleasant:

Colton Aplara won a gold medal in 9-12 Grade Bracket 18 wrestling.

Laine Christe won bronze in K-2 Bracket 2 wrestling.

Logan Christe won bronze in 3-4 Grade Bracket 3 wrestling.

Austin Griest won bronze in Free Throw 11-12 ? male basketball shooting.

Austin Griest won bronze in Shootout 11-12 ? male basketball shooting.

Nathan Howard won bronze in Montrose ? Doubles 9-12 Grades Shooting, satellite trapshoot.

Nathan Howard won gold in Montrose ? Team 9-12 Grades Shooting, satellite trapshoot.

Ashley Hummell won gold in 16-Yard Women?s Open Shooting, satellite trapshoot and gold in Handicap Women?s Open, Shooting, Satellite trapshoot.

JD Klopfenstein won bronze in 16-Yard 9-12 Grades Shooting, satellite trapshoot; won bronze in Handicap 9-12 Grades Shooting, satellite trapshoot; won gold in Team 9-12 Grades Shooting, satellite trapshoot; and won silver in Doubles 9-12 Grades Shooting, satellite trapshoot.

Jayton Phillips won gold in 9-12 Grade Bracket 17 wrestling.

David Stainbvook won gold in 16-Yard Veterans 65-70 shooting, satellite trapshoot.

Philip Yaley won gold in Team 9-12 Grades Shooting, satellite trapshoot.

Jarod Kadel won silver in 5-6 Grades Bracket 2 wrestling.

Justin Doscher won gold in 16-Yard 9-12 Grades Shooting, satellite trapshoot; and won gold in Team 9-12 Grades Shooting, satellite trapshoot.

The Iowa Games, Iowa?s largest amateur sports festival, provides more than 20,000 athletes with a variety of Olympic-style sports during the Summer and Winter Games. The Games are part of the National Congress of State Games and are open to Iowa residents of all ages and abilities. The Iowa Games is hosted by the Iowa Sports Foundation, a nonprofit organization which has a participation base of over 240,000 Iowans.
