Area athletes win medals at Iowa Games
A number of area athletes won medals in the 2012 Summer Iowa Games recently. The summer event featured over 14,000 athletes from across the state.
Hannah Anderson of Washington, who was competing in the girls? 9-10 age group at the youth track and field meet, won three medals. She won a gold medal in the long jump, took silver in the 100-meter dash prelims, and got a bronze in the 100-meter dash finals.

Hannah Anderson of Washington, who was competing in the girls? 9-10 age group at the youth track and field meet, won three medals. She won a gold medal in the long jump, took silver in the 100-meter dash prelims, and got a bronze in the 100-meter dash finals.
Anderson?s brother, Cole, also won a medal at the youth track and field meet. He won a bronze medal in the 200-meter dash in the boys? 7-8 age group.
Austin Hazelett of Washington, who was competing in the 7-8 grade age group at the youth wrestling tournament, won a silver medal.
Dillon de Perrot of Washington, who was competing in the 16-18 age group at the junior golf tournament, won a gold medal.
Diane Gerot of Columbus Junction won a pair of medals in the women?s tennis tournament. She won a gold medal in singles and a bronze medal in doubles for women 55-and-over.
Phoebe Murphy of Columbus Junction, who was competing in the girls? 13-16 age group, won a gold medal in 3D archery.
Matt Girdley of Wayland, who was competing in the men?s 30-34 age group in swimming, won seven medals, six of which were gold. He won gold medals in the 50-meter freestyle, 50-meter breaststroke, 50-meter butterfly, 100-meter freestyle, 100-meter breaststroke and 100-meter individual medley. He also won a silver medal in the 50-meter backstroke.
