Tuesday saw a full day of conference action for the area’s small school baseball teams.
Highland 14, Pekin 3 (5)
The Huskies scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division clash.
Highland’s Peyton Yeggy had a big game, finishing 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Tyler Thompson was 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, and Ethan Paisley collected three hits.
For Pekin, Deklan Hampton finished 3-for-3. Hudson VanEnglehoven was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Sven Dahlstrom knocked in one run.
Wapello 11, Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus 10
The Wolves rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but couldn’t quite pull out another one-run win, instead falling just short of an SEISC North win.
Wapello had a 6-0 lead after one inning, but the Wolves came back to cut it down to one run, at 6-5, before the Indians piled on four more in the fourth. WMU/Columbus never cut it to one run again.
Hillcrest Academy 10, Louisa-Muscatine 0 (6)
The Ravens stayed hot in SEISC North play, blasting the Falcons in six innings.
Luke Schrock not only dominated on the mound, throwing a one-hit shut out with eight strikeouts, but also had a big night at the plate. Schrock was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Jace Rempel went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Seth Ours was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and Phoenix Anderson went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
New London 15, Danville 2 (4)
The Tigers blasted rival Danville in a SEISC South battle.
The game was 2-2 after one inning, but New London scored five runs in the second inning, four in the third and four more in the fourth.
Davis County 20, Cardinal 3
The Comets couldn’t bounce back after a 12-run Davis County first inning. The Mustang’s 17-run win comes less than a month after Cardinal beat the Mustangs 17-0 on the road.
Drake Durflinger was 1-for-2 with an RBI in the win. Gavin Ware went 1-for-2, and both Tatem Telfer and Carson Kenney drove in runs.
