Monday and Tuesday showed it's not over till it's over in Southeast Iowa baseball. New London, Keota and Van Buren County all scored comeback wins. Cardinal swept Albia, and Pekin knocked down first-place Hillcrest Academy.
Cardinal 7, Albia 3
Cardinal broke a 3-3 tie with a three-run fourth and never looked back in a Southeast Conference win over Albia.
Drake Dufrlinger had the big hit in the game, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Cody Birlson had a great game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Kazin Miller knocked one in.
Cardinal 3, Albia 2
The Comets held off a potential seventh-inning Albia rally to polish off the SCC sweep in Eldon.
Gary Ware threw 5.2 innings and struck out 11 Albia batters to earn the win in the circle. Matthew Blomme came in to close the game out.
Offensively, Cayden Courtney, Braden Ballard and Bode Ferrell each had one RBI.
Mid-Prairie 9, No. 8 (1A) Sigourney 3
Tatem Telfer hit a home run and knocked in three runs, and Brock Harland had a double and two runs as the Golden Hawks knocked off a ranked Class 1A team.
Brady Weber had a solid start on the mound for Mid-Prairie, striking 11 batters out and giving up just three runs (two earned) over five innings. Brooks Weber struck five out over two shutout innings.
Keota 16, English Valleys 10
The Eagles trailed 9-8 into the sixth inning but a seven-run sixth helped the Eagles take the lead and bust the game open.
Cole Kindred had a home run, triple and five RBIs to lead the Keota offense. Tanner Waterhouse knocked in three runs. Blake Baker and Jacob Libe each knocked in two.
New London 6, Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus 3
One day after falling to ranked Notre Dame, New London pulled off a comeback win against Henry County rival WMU/Columbus.
Down 3-0 in the fifth, New London strung together a five-run inning, and then added one more in the sixth.
Michael Raines was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the win. Gage Burden went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and Gavin Menke-Bailey threw a complete game, giving up just three runs, all unearned.
Van Buren County 7, Danville 4
The Warriors stormed back from a 4-1 deficit, scoring one in the third, two in the sixth and three in the third to pick up a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division victory in Danville.
Isaiah Meek was 2-for-2 with three RBIs in the win. Kinnick Millard, Will Cocherell and Gavin Titus each knocked in a run, and Titus picked up the win on the mound, throwing five shutout innings in relief.
Pekin 2, Hillcrest Acadaemy 0
The Panthers knocked off the Ravens in a huge SEISC North game, shutting Hillcrest Academy out in a low-scoring grinder.
Pekin bumped Hillcrest Academy down to 9-2 in conference play, just one game ahead of Highland for the conference championship.
One day earlier, Hillcrest defeated Louisa-Muscatine 5-3, and Pekin beat Wapello 4-1.
Highland 7, Lone Tree 5
The Huskies scored the first six runs against Lone Tree and hung on for an SEISC North win.
William Dunbar and Bryce Hazelet each had a double and two RBIs for the Huskies. Landon Roling, Caleb Wheeler and Hunter Seibel each knocked in a run.
Hazelett struck out nine batters over six innings to get the win on the mound.
