Area baseball roundup: Golden Hawks stay in 1st

Monday’s small school baseball slate was highlighted by a major River Valley sweep by second-ranked Mid-Prairie.
No. 2 (2A) Mid-Prairie 3, West Liberty 2
Mid-Prairie rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to knock off West Liberty in a battle of the Top-2 River Valley South teams.
Collin Miller pitched a complete game, giving up just two earned runs while striking out nine batters to earn the win. He also had two of the team’s three RBIs. Dylan Henry had the other, and Alex Bean went 2-for-2.
No. 2 (2A) Mid-Prairie 6, West Liberty 3
Karson Grout finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs to close out the sweep.
Bean, Cain Brown and Landry Gingerich all had RBIs.
Van Buren County 25, Lone Tree 2
The Warriors absolutely smoked the Lions, putting up a season-high 25 runs in a blowout win.
Van Buren County hit three homers, including one by Jackson Manning, who went 4-for-4 witha homer and six RBIs. Lucas Fett was 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs. Anthony Duncan was 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs, and both T.J. Jirak and Izaak Loefler knocked in two runs.
Dominic Meierotto threw a two-hit shut out in the game, which lasted just four innings.
Sigourney 7, Keota 0
The Eagles couldn’t score in a road game at rival Sigourney, as Keota was shut out by former Eagle and current Sigourney pitcher Caden Clarahan.
Aidan Anderson went 1-for-3 with a double to lead Keota in the loss.
New London 13, Highland 5
The Tigers upended the Huskies in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover game.
New London broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the third and never looked back. The Tigers scored 12 runs in total over the last five innings.
No. 4 (3A) Knoxville 12, Cardinal 0
The Comets fell by 12 in Game 1 of a South Central Conference doubleheader.
Cardinal had just two hits in the loss, both by freshman Cayden Courtney, who finished 2-for-2.
No. 4 (3A) Knoxville 12, Cardinal 5
The Comets had a 3-0 lead over the Panthers, who sport an impressive 23-1 record, but Knoxville came storming back.
Jacob Figueroa had two hits for the Comets in the loss. Josh Courtney and Braden Ballard each had two RBIs.
Mediapolis 12, Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus 3
Cael Phillips went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Andrew Brown finished 1-for-2 with a double but the Wolves couldn’t knock off Mediapolis in a SEISC crossover showdown.
No. 8 (1A) Notre Dame 6, Hillcrest Academy 0
The Ravens couldn’t get any runs across in a home game against SEISC crossover opponent Notre Dame.
The Ravens had just four hits on the day. Liam Schrock and Grant Bender each went 1-for-3 with a double.
