Area baseball roundup: Golden Hawks still golden

The area’s small school slate saw some action on Monday night, including two more wins for the No. 1 team in Class 2A.
No. 1 (2A) Mid-Prairie 8, Wilton 1
Brock Harland struck out eight batters and gave up just one unearned run in seven innings to shut down the Beavers in Wilton.
Brady Webrer went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the offense. Alex Bean was 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs of his own. Collin Miller and Camron Pickard each had two hits.
No. 1 (2A) Mid-Prairie 11, Wilton 1
The top-ranked Golden Hawks took Game 2, thanks in part to another stellar pitching performance. This time it was Miller who went all the way, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while also giving up just one earned run.
Karson Grout had a huge game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Bean went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Dylan Henry knocked in a couple of runs as well. Landry Gingerich batted just one time but finished with a two-RBI double.
North Mahaska 9, Keota 6
The Eagles lost a wild one that saw both teams score five runs over the last two innings.
Keota’s Dalton Dodd, Billie Kindred and Aiden McGuire each knocked in two runs in the loss. Cole Kindred finished 2-for-4.
Cole Kindred took the loss on the mound, giving up eight runs (seven earned) over six innings.
Van Buren County 12, Pekin 7
The Warriors won an absolute battle between two area teams to move to 9-1 on the season.
Van Buren County’s Jackson Manning went off in the game, going 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Izaak Loeffler went 4-for-5 with two RBIs., and Taylor Sprouse was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Dylan Richardson threw 6.1 innings and gave up just five earned runs over seven innings to earn the win.
New London 6, Lone Tree 2
The defending Class 1A state champions took it to Lone Tree in the later innings to earn a four run win in Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover play.
Gavin Menke-Bailey had a nice outing, giving up just two runs (one earned) over six inings, while striking out eight batters to earn the win. Brendan Richey came in and stuck out three batters in the seventh.
Richey went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Tiger bats. Memphis Watson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs as well.
Hillcrest Academy 9, Mediapolis 6
The Ravens’ unbeaten streak was in danger after a four-run Mediapolis top of the first, but Hillcrest Academy bounced back with a five run first inning, and tallied four more throughout the game for a three-run SEISC crossover win.
Josiah Beachy went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Ravens. Jace Rempel was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Seth Ours was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Grant Bender went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI of his own.
Beachy threw six innings and gave up six runs (five earned), while striking out five batters in the win.
Central Lee 13, Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus 5
The Wolves enjoyed a 4-3 lead in a home game against Central Lee, but the Hawks scored 10 runs over their last three at-bats to steal the win.
Riley Kaalberg had a big night for the Wolves, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Andrew Brown was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
