Area baseball roundup: Mid-Prairie sweeps, Cardinal rolls
Monday sees a few area squads pile up runs; Tuesday’s games largely postponed

The No. 2 team in Class 2A kept rolling to highlight a fairly busy Monday in area small school baseball.
Only one Union area game was played on Tuesday due to bad air quality. Most games were postponed.
No. 2 (2A) Mid-Prairie 8, Durant 0
Collin Miller continued to dominate on the mound, shutting down Durant for a complete-game four-hitter to take out potential district final opponent Durant.
Karson Grout had another huge game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Brady Weber was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Cain Brown knocked one in as well.
No. 2 (2A) Mid-Prairie 8, Durant 2
Weber followed Miller’s performance by going six innings and giving up just two earned runs. to earn the victory.
Grout, Alex Bean, Weber, Brock Harland and Miller all had RBIs in the win. Miller tallied two hits.
Keota 2, English Valleys 0
The Eagles struggled to score against the Bears, putting up just two runs in the third inning when Aidan Anderson brought two in with a hit, but the defense was enough to get it done.
Anderson threw seven innings on the mound and gave up just two hits in a four-strikeout complete game.
Cardinal 13, Clarke 4
The Comets blasted Clarke in a South Central Conference showdown, thanks in part to a huge outing from Tatem Telfer at the plate.
Telfer went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs to lead the team. Josh Courtney had two RBIs. Quinn Snyder went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Gavin Ware was 2-for-5 with an RBI of his own.
Central Lee 6, New London 5 (8)
The Tigers fell in extras in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division road game.
New London had seven hits in the game. Two of those came from Memphis Watson, who finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Gage Burden was 1-for-3 with two RBIs in the loss. Brendan Richey went 1-for-3 with an RBI of his own.
Sigourney 10, Highland 1 (Tuesday)
The Huskies dropped a non-conference game, thanks in part to five run innings from Sigourney in both the first and third frames.
Highland scored one run in the first inning but never got anything going after that, tallying just five hits.
