Cardinal softball clinches south division title
ELDON ? The Cardinal softball team clinched a tie for the SEISC south division championship with a 12-0 win against Central Lee at home Monday.
Felisha Durflinger allowed just one hit and struck out three in three innings of work as Cory Campbell led the offense going 3-3 with a double. Lindsay Moore was also perfect from the plate going 2-2 while driving in three runs.
The Comets are now set for Wednesday?s district opener against Danville set to begin at 7 p.m.
Comets keep win streak going with 14-4 rout
DONNELLSON ? The Cardinal baseball team won its 12th straight game Monday with a 14-4 five-inning victory against Central Lee.
Colton Millard blasted his seventh home run of the season for the Comets as Tanner Thorne tallied four hits in five plate appearances and ended up with two RBIs. Micheal Goering scored three runs after going 2-5 with a triple.
Comet starting pitcher AJ McElderry struck out four batters while giving up three hits to earn the win. Coty Ridgway tallied three strikeouts in two innings of relief work.
Cardinal will travel to west Burlington tonight for the final conference game of the season.
Van Buren stays above south division heap
DANVILLE ? Michael Boyd fanned 12 Danville batters and allowed just two hits as Van Buren cruised to a 7-0 win against the Bears Monday night.
Jory Heckenberg?s two-run home run and catch Spencer Bartholomew?s triple paced the Warrior attack to give them their 18th win of the season.
Van Buren sits atop the SEISC south division standings and will have a chance to clinch the title in Wednesday?s afternoon game against Burlington-Notre Dame. Van Buren will then visit Keokuk on Thursday.
Van Buren softball team concludes regular season
DANVILLE ? In the Van Buren softball team?s regular season finale, they were downed 5-3 by Danville Monday evening.
Jeirra Woods tallied two hits and and an RBI to lead the Warrior offense in the loss. Starter Savannah Birch pitched four innings before being relieved by Jessica Saunders in the fifth.
The Warriors are now set to host Central Lee in the first round of the Class 2A regional tournament Thursday evening.
