After a tough weekend tournament in Iowa City, which saw the Mid-Prairie softball team go 1-3, the Golden Hawks have responded well this week.
In their three games, Mid-Prairie claimed two wins, including a victory over ranked Northeast, Goose Lake on Tuesday evening.
Monday night in a road doubleheader at Tipton, the Mid-Prairie girls exploded for nine runs in the first inning, en route to a 14-2 four-inning victory.
Alex Rath and Ali Naylor each had a pair of hits in the contest, with Maddi Zahradnek claiming three runs.
Four other Golden Hawks scored two runs apiece in the game.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Hawks fell 4-1 with Rath stealing two bases and scoring the only Mid-Prairie run of the contest.
In the victory over Northeast, the Hawks trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but claimed three runs in the frame, with five more runs in the bottom of the seventh to claim a 9-6 win.
Amber Kral went 4-for-5 in the contest with a homer, a double and six RBIs, while Abby Tornow had three hits and scored three runs in the game.
Mid-Prairie softball sits at 5-9 on the season.
On the baseball diamond, the Golden Hawks split with Tipton in their doubleheader, falling 7-6, but winning the nightcap 8-5.
In the loss, Adam Schrock and Derek Rich each claimed two hits and a run, while Johnathan Haman, Karson Gingerich and Alex Watson also earned hits.
In the victory, Rich claimed two hits with a pair of runs and three RBIs, while Schrock notched a pair of doubles and an RBI.
Jacob Leonard earned the win on the mound in relief, pitching two innings of two-hit, four-strikeout ball.
The games put Mid-Prairie at 6-4 this season.
Both the Mid-Prairie baseball and softball teams will be hosting Cascade on Thursday night, with softball playing at the middle school and baseball at the high school.
