Union area girls basketball teams were in action over the weekend. Keota had no problem navigating two games in two days, picking up a pair of wins.
Elsewhere, Highland remained unbeaten in Southeast Iowa Super Conference North play. Pekin split a pair of games, while Mid-Prairie, Van Buren County, Cardinal and WACO also picked up wins.
Here’s how area small school girls teams performed Friday and Saturday.
Jan. 9
No. 13 Mid-Prairie 74, West Liberty 55
The Golden Hawks outscored the Comets 25-15 in the fourth quarter to pull away. Brooklyn Schneider led Mid-Praire with 20 points.
Highland 52, Hillcrest 20
Katelyn Thomann led the Huskies with 13 points as Highland improved to 10-0 in SEISC North play.
Pekin 58, Wapello 38
Anna Hadley had a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Panthers.
Van Buren County 50, Burlington Notre Dame 44
Sophia Jirak scored 18 points. Marlee Mertens had 12 and Adalyn Snowgren had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Cardinal 57, Clarke Community 49
Summer LaRue racked up 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists to help the Comets to a win Friday.
Keota 55, BGM 34
The Eagles were led by sophomore Cameron Haifley’s 14 points. Kennedy Jackson was also in double figures with 10.
Lone Tree 61, Columbus 33
The Wildcats were outscored 29-8 in the second and third quarters. Kennedy Woepking led the Wildcats with 12 points.
Louisa-Muscatine 68, Winfield-Mt. Union 41
The Wolves had an improved second half, but scored just eight points in the first two quarters in a blowout defeat.
West Burlington 56, New London 8
The Tigers dropped to 0-11 and 0-8 in SEISC South play.
Jan. 10
Sigourney 63, Pekin 31
The Panthers split their two games in as many days and were outscored 21-3 in the third quarter.
Keota 58, Hillcrest 24
Haifley scored 22 points and freshman Jessalyn Aller added 14 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for the Eagles. Niva Helmuth was the lone Hillcrest player in double figures with 10 points.
WACO 65, New London 22
Drew Graber scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead WACO. Carlee Lunsford added 11 off the bench. Megan Lee led New London with eight points.
