Last week’s girls soccer action saw three nail-biters. Columbus and Mid-Prairie both lost on Thursday, but the Golden Hawks bounced back on Friday.
Central Lee 2, Columbus 1 (OT)
The Wildcats and Hawks were tied 1-1 after both teams scored in the first half, but Central Lee put in a golden goal in double overtime to protect their home field.
Columbus fell to 3-10 with the loss. The Wildcats had just beaten Wapello, 4-0, two days earlier.
Williamsburg 2, Mid-Prairie 0
Niva Helmuth made 10 saves but the Golden Hawks couldn’t find a goal in a road game at Williamsburg.
Mid-Prairie did collect six shots on the day, including five shots on goal. Elise Gingerich had two shots on goal, but neither found the back of the net.
Mid-Prairie 2, Northeast 1 (Friday)
One day after falling to Williamsburg, Mid-Prairie’s Amara Jones played the hero, as she scored two times in the second half to bring the Golden Hawks to victory.
The game was 0-0 at halftime. Northeast’s lone goal also came in the second half.
Mid-Prairie’s Kina MIller made 10 saves in the Golden Hawks’ win. Northeast’s Shannon Kenneavy was forecd to stop 26 shots.
It was Mid-Prairie’s third win in a row against Northeast in the all-time series.
