Pekin girls fall to Lone Tree
PACKWOOD ? Lone Tree scored 32 points off Pekin turnovers Friday to hand the Panthers their third loss in Southeast SuperConference action.
Behind 22 points from Ella Feldman and 16 from Madelyn Flemr, the Lions dropped Pekin 67-51 in Packwood.
Emily Ellis led the Panthers (8-3, 7-3 SEISC north) with 18 points and three steals. Brandy Millikin scored nine points while dishing out two assists, Cheyann Lankford had seven points and three steals, and Paige Jensen scored six to go with a team-high 13 rebounds.
Pekin will host WACO on Tuesday.
Van Buren wins in Eldon
ELDON ? A big second quarter from the 15th-ranked (Class 2A) Van Buren girls put the Comets in a hole they couldn?t climb out of, and the Warriors cruised to a 59-44 away victory Friday night in Eldon.
The visiting team scored 23 points while holding the Comets to five points in what ended up being the decisive second quarter, grabbing a 34-13 advantage at the midway point.
The inside-outside duo of Hanna Haynes and Makenzie Zeitler paced the Warriors with a pair of double-double performances. Haynes scored 18 points on nearly flawless 9-of-12 shooting along with 11 boards and seven blocks, and Zeitler scored 12 points while pulling down 15 rebounds and dishing out six assists. Jessica Saunders scored 16 points and had five assists. Juniors Jordan Billups and Payten Hughes scored seven and six points, respectively.
Cardinal managed to put up a fight after finding itself down 21 points at halftime, outscoring the Warriors 31-25 in the final half.
For Cardinal, junior Lindsay Moore scored 14 points followed by Liz Nichols with nine and Brooke Courtney with eight points. Laci Moore scored five, while Sarah Greiner and freshman Jordan Smith scored four apiece. Greiner also tallied a team-high six assists.
Van Buren (9-1, 8-0 SEISC south) returns to its home hardwood Tuesday to face Burlington-Notre Dame. Meanwhile, Cardinal (3-9, 3-6) will travel to Danville Tuesday.
