Columbus, West Liberty host home tournaments before Thanksgiving break

Area girls wrestling teams were in both Columbus and West Liberty on Tuesday night as the season continues to start with a bang.
In Columbus, Pekin outlasted Albia for second place, scoring 128 points on the night. Van Buren County and Columbus also finished Top-5.
Pekin had two champions on the night, as Lila Miller won the 135-pound bracket and Hailey Pedrick took first at 140. Finishing second place for the Panthers was Lexa Nelson at 110, and Reece Brisby at 125.
VBC had two champions, as Eleanor Shin won the 130-pound bracket and Alex Shields took first at 235. The Warriors had one runner-up, as Jacqueline Singer took second at 105.
Columbus didn’t have a winner on the day, but did finish with two second-place finishes. Kalley Deese was second at 120 pounds, and Jada Moats finished second at 170.
WACO’s Elyssa Graber and Rylee Rice each took home first place titles. Graber won the 105-pound bracket, and Rice won at 110.
Highland had one winner on the day. Chloe Sexton took first place at 190.
In West Liberty, Mid-Prairie scored 159.5 points to come just six points off first place Fort Madison. Mt. Pleasant and Washington were 13th and 15th respectively.
Mid-Prairie’s Ashlee Farrier took first in the 130-pound bracket. Ellie Callahan won at 170.
Mt. Pleasant had one winner on the day, as Zenlynn Lee took first in the 145-pound tournament. She and Washington’s Peggy Miller went at it in the first place match, where Lee outlasted Miller on a 1-0 decision.
