Area golf teams play in Burlington

BURLINGTON — A handful of area golf teams competed at the 2025 Nike Invite in Burlington on Tuesday. Mt. Pleasant, Winfield-Mount Union, Highland and Van Buren County were all in action.
The big winner on the day was the Highland girls' team, which shot a 382 to win the meet by 30 shots.
Van Buren County finished third on the girls’ side, shooting 428, thanks in part to a 99 by Warrior leader Sophia Jirak. Tessa Sayer shot a 106. Keely Duncan finished at 109. Callie Kracht shot a 114. Isabel Snead ended at 117, and Payton Wiley finished at 132.
Mt. Pleasant shot a 432, for fourth. The Panthers were led by Ashlynn Beauchamp’s 102. Sophia Walderbach, Vivan Cornell and Izzy Zihlman each shot 110. Kaylen Hunold finished at 116, and Olivia McCormick shot 142.
Winfield-Mount Union had just two girls in action. Kelle Milks shot a 113, and Ashlyn Bender finished at 113 as well.
The Huskies were led by the Top-2 overall players in the field. Emersyn Schultz was the medalist, at 81, and Adisyn Prottsman finished at 84, for second.
Highland’s Adeline Krotz shot a 102. Joslyn Prottsman and Autumn Guseman finished at 115.
On the boys’ side, Winfield-Mount Union finished second, with a final score of 319. Mt. Pleasant was third, with a 328. Van Buren County finished fifth, at 455, and Highland didn’t have enough players to score.
The Wolves were led by a 76 from Justin Knipfer. Konner Kinneberg shot a 79. Cody Milks and Nick Sparrow each shot 82. Max Edwards finished at 88, and Sinjin Brown shot a 90.
Mt. Pleasant’s Brody Engle shot a 77. Alex Barton finished at 82. Logan Calhoun shot an 84. Merrick Lamm finished at 854. Sam Frary finished at 98, and J.C. Sitar shot a 103.
Van Buren County’s Leo Jirak shot an 1. Will Cocherell finished at 89. Joe Debner finished at 92. Aiden McEntee shot a 93. Jerrod Griffin finished at 95, and Ethan Pforts shot a 96.
Highland had three boys golfers present. Isaac Giesman shot a 118. Tyson Grout finished at 221, and Ryker Miller finished at 135.
