Keota falls to Montezuma
The Keota boys? basketball team surged in the first half, but couldn?t carry that momentum in to the third quarter on Tuesday night.
The Eagles were outscored 24-10 in the third quarter of their contest against Montezuma, and it proved to be the difference, as Montezuma picked up a 63-57 victory.
The loss pushes Keota to 9-4 on the season, while the Eagles move to 8-2 in conference play.
Juinor Jacob Wickenkamp recorded 19 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists to lead Keota, while sophomore Hunter Wilson had 12 points, and junior Avery Conrad notched nine points and 12 rebounds.
Senior Zach Mousel dished out four assists in the loss.
The Eagles shot 20-of-45 (44 percent) from the field, but shot 36 percent (9-of-25) from 3-point range.
Keota will look to rebound after back-to-back road losses with three straight home games, starting on Friday night against Colfax-Mingo.
IMS fall short against Wapello
A late fourth-quarter rally, and 32 points from senior Eli Gingerich, wasn?t enough for the Iowa Mennonite boys? basketball team on Tuesday night, as they fell to conference foe Wapello on Tuesday night.
Wapello outscored IMS 43-25 over the second and third quarters in the game, en route to a 72-63 victory, despite a 22-point fourth quarter from IMS.
Gingerich led the team with his 32 points on 11-of-16 shooting, which included connecting on six 3-pointers. The senior also grabbed a team-high five rebounds, dished out two assists and had two steals.
Nick Yutzy followed Gingerich with nine points and a team-high four assists, while junior Cole Yoder picked up eight points and three rebounds.
IMS falls to 7-4 on the season, and the loss marks its fourth conference loss on the season, and fourth in six games.
Iowa Mennonite will head to WACO on Friday, before a tough game against Highland on Tuesday night.
WACO loses to Mepo
A pair of double-digit scorers for WACO wasn?t enough for the boys? basketball team to pull out a victory over Mediapolis on Tuesday night.
The Warriors saw Bryce Achen notch a team-high 14 points, while Duncan Pickard picked up 13, but the scoring left WACO on the short end of a 51-44 score.
Tough first and fourth quarters, which saw WACO be outscored by a combined 32-15, proved to be the difference in the game, despite outscoring Mediapolis 29-19 in the second and third quarters.
In addition to the scoring, Achen also grabbed a team-high six rebounds, while Jaren Unternahrer dished out a team-high four assists in the game.
WACO will take on Iowa Mennonite at home on Friday night, as they look to avenge a 41-37 loss from early in the season.
Columbus drops game to Lone Tree
The Columbus boys? basketball team recovered from a slow start in the first half, but it wasn?t enough to get back in the game with Lone Tree on Tuesday night, falling 66-44 in the contest.
The team had a trio of double-digit scorers, with Tommy Pretz and Carter Colby each notching 14 points to lead the team. Colby also finished the game with a team-high three assists.
John Rees picked up 10 points in the game, while Dalton Bright led the team with five rebounds in the contest.
Columbus will look to earn their first win of the season as Winfield-Mt. Union comes to town on Friday night.
