The Iowa Girls Coaches Association has announced all-state teams for 2012, and three area girls have joined elite company by landing spots.
In Class 2A, Cardinal catcher Lindsay Moore made Second Team All-State and Pekin third baseman Maranda Baker earned third team honors. Fairfield catcher Marisa Repp landed Third Team All-State accolades in Class 4A.
Moore, a junior, was the Comet team leader in various statistics, including batting average (.385), runs scored (39) and stolen bases (11). She also tallied six dingers and 16 doubles en route to knocking in 27 runs.
Baker, another junior, set the single-season record for RBI at Pekin with 49 runs knocked in. She also whacked five triples and four homers and had a batting average of .418 from the three-hole.
Fairfield sophomore Marisa Repp complemented her sturdy defense from behind the plate with a comparably stellar offensive game. Repp slammed two of the Trojans? four home runs on the season and had a team-high .366 average and 24 RBI.
In addition, the Iowa Girls Coaches Association released its all-district teams. Moore and Baker again earned spots, making the Class 2A Southeast District squad, and they were joined by Baker?s junior teammate Cheyann Lankford, who earned a spot at shortstop.
As Pekin?s leadoff hitter, Lankford led the way in batting average (.470) and steals (23-for-23) while only striking out five times. If those numbers weren?t enough, Lankford shattered the school?s single-season record for runs plated, with 63.
