The Iowa Print Sportswriters Associatoin released its 2021 All-State boys basketball lists on Tuesday and four Union area players were on the list. One member of the area quartet landed on the first team, and three were placed on third teams.
New London's Blaise Porter was the only Union area player to land on the second team, making it in Class 1A. He was one of just four sophomores to make the Class 1A state list, and one of three second-teamers.
The Tiger' second-year guard scored 22.4 points per game this season, 15th best in Class 2A. He also filled the stat sheet in other ways, finishing the year with 4.2 rebounds per game, 4.9 assists per game and 2.3 steals per game.
Speaking of sophomore's, Fairfield's second-year big man Max Weaton capped off his big year with a Class 3A third-team selection. He was one of just four sophomores chosen in Class 3A, all of which landed on the third team.
It's not hard to see how Weaton made the squad, despite the Trojans having a below .500 record. He was the only Class 3A boys basketball player to finish in the Top-6 in both points and rebounds.
Weaton's 19.6 points per game were sixth most in Class 3A. He was fifth in the class in rebounding, with 9.2 rebounds per game. He also dished out 2.2 assists per game, had one steal per game and 0.7 blocks per game.
A couple of upperclassmen, Pekin senior Brady Millikin and Mid-Prairie junior Carter Harmsen, were named to the Class 2A third team.
Millikin scored 14.9 points per game this year for the Panthers, and dished out 5.8 assists per game, third most among all Class 2A pleyrs. Among the Top-30 in Class 2A helpers, only Millikin and OABCIG's Cooper Dejean finished with under two turnovers again, averaging just 1.6 giveaways per contest.
Millikin also finished the year with 5.4 rebounds per game and 2.4 steals per game.
Harmsen led Mid-Prairie with 18.3 points per game, and aldo did plenty to fill the other stat categories. The Golden Hawks' junior finished the year with 6.9 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game, 1.1 steals per game and 0.8 blocks per game.
