It is a packed Friday night for the small schools around Southeast Iowa. Added to the three big school home openers taking place tonight, there are nine games across the area involving our Union Area small schools.
There is one all-Union game tonight. Pekin will head to Mid-Prairie where the two squads will battle to see who gets their first win of the season. Both teams are 0-1 entering that contest.
The game at MId-Prairie is one of five games happening inside the coverage area. New London hosts Moravia, Highland hosts Alburnett, WACO hosts Janesville, Sigourney-Keota hosts Lynnville-Sully and Winfield-Mt. Union hosts a special border battle game against River Ridge of Illinois.
Just two schools will be dawning their road uniforms tonight. Columbus will be at GMG, Garwin, seeking its first win. Cardinal will look to move to 2-0 in Wayne County, and Van Buren will aim to get in the winner's column at Louisa-Muscatine.
Keep an eye peeled for all this weekend's football coverage, including Iowa Wesleyan's college tilt with Cornell, in Monday and Tuesday's issues of The Southeast Iowa Union.
