Comets knock off pair of quality opponents, including ranked Albia

Cardinal 3, No. 13 Albia 2
Nicoa McClure gave up just two earned runs, while striking out nine batters from 2023 state qualifier Albia.
Emma Becker had two hits and Cynthia Albert and Autumn Smith both knocked in one run.
Cardinal 4, Oskaloosa 3 (9)
The Comets followed up the win against Albia with an extra-inning defeat of Oskaloosa.
Emma Becker went 3-for-5 with an RBI in the win. Summer Larue was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Pella 7, Cardinal 1
The Comets couldn’t make it a 3-0 stretch, falling to Pella by six runs.
Wilton 5, Mid-Prairie 0
The Golden Hawks struggled to score in a River Valley battle. Mid-Prairie had four players collect hit, but nothing to show for it.
No. 11 (4A) Burlington 11, Mid-Prairie 0
The Golden Hawks kept struggling in a non-conference game against Burlington. The Grayhounds ran away with it in six innings.
Montezuma 26, Keota 9
Keota played in a shoot out against South Iowa Cedar League rival Monezuma on Friday night. THe Braves had too much for the Eagles, ending it in the fifth inning.
Holy Trinity 6, New London 1
The Tigers held a one run lead early but the Crusaders came storming back in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division battle.
No. 15 (3A) West Burlington 13, New London 2
New London again led early, going up 2-0 after one inning against the ranked Falcons. West Burlington’s offense didn’t stay quiet long.
Van Buren County 9, Mediapolis 8
The Warriors walked off the Bullettes on Thursday night.
Callie Kracht went 2-for-4 with two RBis in the win. Lexee Fritz knockoed in two runs as well.
Van Buren County 8, Holy Trinity Catholic 1
The Warriors kept the good times rolling on Friday night, picking up another SEISC South win.
Ashlynn Huff went off in the game, going 5-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Kylee Roen knocked in two.
Winfield-Mount Union 13, WACO 0
The Wolves won the renewel of a rivalry that hadn’t taken place since 2016 due to WACO’s co-op with COlumbus.
Makiah Lower went 2-for-3 with three RBis to lead the Wolves. Jessi Renken had a double and two RBIs. Josie Ford knocked in two, and Josie Nelson scored four runs.
WACO’s Rhiannon Horn went 1-for-2 with a triple.
Hillcrest Academy 13, WACO 1
The Ravens collected 13 hits against the Warriors, including two from Delaney Shaw, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Claire Withrow and Malia Yoder each knocked in one.
Hillcrest Academy 19, Pekin 6
The Ravens were red hot on Thursday, putting up enarly 20 runs in Packwood.
Yoder went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Shaw and Hailey Chalupa each knocked in two.
Wapello 2, Highland 1
The Huskies were walked off by Wapello despite a great outing by Grace Prybil, who struck out 10 batters over 7.2 innings. Sarah Burton picked up the Huskies’ only hit, stole a base and scored a run.
Wapello 12, Columbus 1
One day after beating Highland, Wapello knocked off Columbus in six innings.
Kennedy Woepking went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Lily Coil had one RBI as well.
