Area softball: Highland moves on

Just like that, the Class 1A Region 8 softball tournament is down to one Union area team. Only Highland was able to move on to the quarterfinals.
Highland 13, Hillcrest Academy 1 (4)
The Huskies knocked out the Ravens in four innings. Grace Batcheller struck out four batters and held the Ravens to two hits to earn the win.
Sarah Burton went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs. Adeline Krotz had three RBIs, and Madison Beeson knocked in two.
Hillcrest’s Evelyn Gerber was 1-for-2 with a double. Norah Yoder was 1-for-2 with a single, and Leah Bontrager took the loss in the circle. Highland hosts English Valleys on Tuesday.
Lone Tree 9, New London 7
The Tigers lost a slug fest at Lone Tree, despite a big night from Sophie Malott. Malott was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in the loss.
Olivia Hester had two RBIs in the loss. Ashlyn McSorley, Marlianna Woodsmall and Kaitlyn Lee all knocked in one.
Tri-County 12, Keota 0 (3)
Keota collected just one hit in a mercy rule loss to Tri-County.
