It was a busy first weekend of area softball. The following games all took place over a three-day stretch from Thursday to Saturday.
Van Buren County 9, Wapello 4
The Warriors scored all nine runs in the middle innings to run away with a Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover game.
Annabelle Cormier was 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the win. Ally Campbell gave up just four runs (three earned) in a complete game.
West Burlington 17, Van Buren County 2
Van Buren County had an early 2-0 lead against SEISC South power West Burlington, but the Warriors couldn’t hang on.
Despite the loss, Cormier was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Jade Balmer went 1-for-1 with an RBI of her own.
Holy Trinity Catholic 10, Pekin 0
The Panthers couldn’t put up any runs on the Crusaders just two days after their wild 28-27 loss against Winfield-Mount Union.
Payten Coleman and Kendyl Noel each had hits in the loss.
Highland 12, Central Lee 5
The Huskies flew past Central Lee to pick up their 10th win over the Hawks since 2012. The Huskies have yet to lose in that series.
Highland 14, Pekin 1
One day after beating Central Lee, Highland put up 14 runs on Pekin in a SEISC North showdown.
Wilton 3, Highland 1
The Huskies led 1-0 after the first frame, but Wilton tied it up in the second and won it in the fifth to knock off the Huskies at a triangular in Wilton.
Calamus-Wheatland 8, Highland 2
Also in the Wilton triangular, Highland couldn’t knock off a tough Calamus-Wheatland team, falling by six.
Columbus 11, Lone Tree 3
The Wildcats scored early and often in an eight-run SEISC North road win.
Jocelyn Fulton went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs in the win. Ellie Sanders was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Lily Coil struck out seven batters in a complete-game victory.
West Burlington 10, Columbus 0
The Wildcats couldn’t knock off West Burlington in an SEISC crossover game, collecting just three hits in the loss.
West Burlington 13, Winfield-Mount Union 0
The Wolves couldn’t score against West Burlington ace Lauren Summers. Ella Kann took the loss in the circle.
Wapello 12, Winfield-Mount Union 0
The Wolves fell in an SEISC North battle one day after the West Burlington loss.
Hillcrest Academy 10, Danville 1
The Ravens hit double-digits against Danville in their first game of the season.
Kylee Statler went 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the season opener. Malia Yoder was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs, and also threw a one-hit, 13-strikeout gem in the circle.
Louisa-Muscatine 12, Hillcrest Academy 2
The Ravens lost to the Falcons despite another hit and two more RBIs for Statler.
Fort Madison 12, Cardinal 8
The Comets lost a wild one despite leading 8-3 in the middle of the fourth innings.
Kinsey Hissem finished 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Nicoa McClure knocked in two runs, and Brinlee Ostrander was 2-for-4 with a double. Emma Becker had a double as well.
Knoxville 14, Cardinal 2
Cardinal led 2-0 at the start of their SCC showdown with the Panthers. Knoxville scored the next 14 runs.
Ostrander went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead the Comets.
Mid-Prairie 8, Tipton 2
A five-run first helped Mid-Prairie beat Tipton in Game 1 of a River Valley doubleheader.
Brenne Jehle was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Golden Hawks. Madeline Schrader knocked in two runs. Sophie Miller and Hannah Sellers each had three hits and an RBI.
Sydney Knebel went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI at the plate, and also threw a complete game, giving up just two earned runs.
Mid-Prairie 15, Tipton 2
In Game 2, Mid-Prairie torched Tipton with 15 runs in the first two innings.
Jehle was 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the win. Sellers, Miller and Knebel all had two RBIs, and Kadence Grout gave up just two earned runs over a three-inning game.
Tri-County 13, Keota 0
The Eagles couldn’t hold off the Trojans’ offense in a South Iowa Cedar League battle.
