A full day of area softball was highlighted by dominant outings from Winfield-Mount Union, Columbus and Mid-Prairie.
Winfield-Mount Union 16, Pekin 0
Winfield-Mount Union scored 10 runs in the first inning of a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division home win over Pekin.
Makiah Lower and Quin Smith each knocked in four runs for the Wolves. Josie Nelson went 2-for-4 with double, two RBIs and four stolen bases.
Lower gave up just one hit in the circle. She struck out six Panthers.
Pekin’s lone hit was by Myah Bainbridge, who went 1-for-1 on the night. Ezra Parsons took the loss in the circle.
No. 11 (2A) Louisa-Muscatine 4, Highland 3
Highland nearly knocked off SEISC North rival Louisa-Muscatine, but the Falcons held off the Huskies by one run.
Lone Tree 7, Hillcrest Academy 5
Hillcrest was leading 5-1 going into the last two innings, but Lone Tree scored one in the sixth and five in the seventh to score a comeback win.
Columbus 15, WACO 3
Former teammates clashed as Columbus beat WACO in the first game since the two stopped playing as a co-op ahead of this summer.
Wildcat sophomore Kennedy Woepking went 2-for-3 with four RBIS. Daniela Diaz knocked in three, and Ellie Sanders picked up the win in the circle.
WACO had a two-hit day from Natalie Wagler. She drove in a run, as did Drew Graber.
Mediapolis 14, New London 1
The Bullettes scored seven in the second and never let the Tigers claw back in a SEISC South battle.
Mid-Prairie 17, Tipton 0
The Golden Hawks absolutely rolled in Game 1 of a River Valley South doubleheader. Mid-Prairie’s Kadence Grout threw a five-hit shutout, and also went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs at the plate. Sophie Miller and Kyla Kames each knocked in two.
Mid-Prairie 23, Tipton 4
The Golden Hawks continued to slug away in Game 2. Mid-Prairie’s Dakota Mitchell went 2-for-2 with a home run and five RBIs. Gabi Robertson was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and both Brylee Gearhart and Olivia Swartzentruber knocked in two.
Belle Plaine 15, Keota 3
The Eagles couldn’t come back from a 6-0 start for Belle Plaine. The Plainsmen responded to a three-run Eagle third by scoring nine of their own.
