Area softball roundup: Brun has 8-RBI game

A busy couple of days in small school softball saw Highland senior Payton Brun knock in eight runs in one game as the Huskies beat two area teams in two days.
Mediapolis 16, Winfield-Mount Union 3
A pair of home runs helped Mediapolis run past the Wolves in a Southeast Iowa Union cross-over game.
Makiah Lower, Kellee Milks and Lilly Heckenthorn all had RBIs in the loss.
WMU began a game against Wapello on Tuesday night but didn’t get far before it was postponed to be made up on Wednesday.
Highland 5, Columbus 1
The Huskies outlasted the Wildcats in SEISC North play.
Adisyn Prottsman had two RBIs in the win. Lilly Barre went 2-for-4 with a triple and a double. Sarah Burton was 2-for-4 with a double, and Madison Beeson had two hits and an RBI.
Grace Prybil gave up just five hits all night, and struck out 10 Wildcats in the win.
Lily Coil went 2-for-3 for Columbus. Kennedy Woepking was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Highland 17, New London 0
The Huskies only led 5-0 after five innings, but Highland scored 12 sixth-inning runs to pile up 17 total.
Payton Run had a ridiculous day, going 3-for-4 with a home run and eight RBIs to lead the Huskies.
Van Buren County 14, Columbus 0 (Monday)
Callie Kracht was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBis, and Kylee Roen went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs as the Warriors shut down Columbus.
Ashlynn Huff and Lexie Wiley each knocked in two runs, and Addison Brauns gave up just two hits over three innings pitched to get the win.
Hillcrest Academy 5, Holy Trinity Catholic 2 (Monday)
The Ravens came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Crusaders in an SEISC crossover battle
Delaney Shaw went 2-for-4 with a triple. Erin Bontrager was 2-for-3. Lydia Beachy went 2-for-4, and the trio of Claire Withrow, Malia Yoder and Morgyn Nafziger each knocked in one run.
No. 15 (3A) Central Lee 15, Pekin 3 (Monday)
Pekin held a 3-0 lead after one half inning but it didn’t last in a road loss.
No. 9 (2A) Cardinal 3, Clarke 0
Summer LaRue went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and an RBI, and Nicoa McClure threw a seven-strikeout, complete-game three-hitter as Cardinal beat Clarake in South Centrala Conference action.
The win helped Cardinal stay one game back of Knoxville in the SCC standings.
English Valleys 12, Keota 0
The Eagles fell in four innings against English Valleys in a South Iowa Cedar League batle.
