Area softball roundup: VBC walks off Hillcrest, Pekin tops WMU

Van Buren County 4, Hillcrest Academy 3
Van Buren County walked off Hillcrest Academy on Wednesday, knocking the Ravens off in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover matchup.
Kylee Roen went 2-for-3 with triple and an RBI for the Warriors. Ivy Davidson had two hits and an RBI, and Ali Pedretti knocked one in.
Hillcrest’s Claire Withrow went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Delaney Shaw had two hits, including a double, and Kylee Statler knocked in one run.
Van Buren County 12, Mediapolis 6
The Warriors scored the last 11 runs of the ballgame, coming back from down 6-1 in the final three innings on Tuesday.
Davidson was 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Lexie Wiley went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Rowen went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Pekin 6, Winfield-Mount Union 4
The Panthers had a 6-1 lead at one point, and WMU couldn’t storm back, as Pekin scooped up an SEISC North victory.
Despite the loss, it was a nice night offensively for WMU senior Jessi Renken, who went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Makiah Lower and Kinsley Gunnison each had RBIs for the Wolves.
No. 15 (2A) Louisa-Muscatine 4, Highland 3
One day after dropping a crossover game to West Burlington, the Huskies nearly knocked off ranked Louisa-Muscatine.
The Falcons held off the Huskies to move to 9-0 in conference play, getting a stranglehold of the SEISC North lead.
Columbus 19, WACO 7
The Wildcats and Warriors combined for 26 runs in just three frames, as Columbus won the game via the 12-run mercy rule.
Columbus’ Aracely Garza went 1-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Lizbet Herrera, Daniela Diaz and Sidney Clark each had two RBIs, and Jessica Del Rio went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
WACO’s Rhiannon Horn was 1-for-2 with a double and four RBIs in the loss. Madelyn Farmer knocked in two runs.
No. 9 (2A) Cardinal 3, Knoxville 2
The Comets took soul possession of the South Central Conference lead on Monday, as Cardinal scored three runs in the first and hung on for a win over the Panthers.
Cynthia Albert knocked in two runs in the win. Maclain Hickenbottom was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Nicoa McClure pitched a complete game for the win.
Chariton 13, No. 9 (2A) Cardinal 0
One day after the big win over Knoxville, third place Chariton took one from the Comets in Eldon.
Cardinal had just three hits in the loss. Macy Grove led the team, going 1-for-2 with a double.
No. 14 (3A) West Liberty 4, Mid-Prairie 2
The Golden Hawks couldn’t quite squeak out a River Valley South victory against the Comets in Game 1 of a doubleheader.
No. 14 (3A) West Liberty 12, Mid-Prairie 2
Mid-Prairie fell in Game 2 of a River Valley doubleheader, allowing West Liberty to stay oneo game back of first-place Iowa City Regina.
No. 3 (1A) Sigourney 17, Keota 0
The Eagles were only down four runs after three against a loaded Sigourney squad, but the Savages scored 13 runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
