Area softball roundup: Warriors topple Tigers

Van Buren County’s fourth-straight win highlighted Tuesday’s small school softball action.
Van Buren County 9, New London 3
A six-run first inning helped Van Buren County move to .500 for the first time this season with a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division win in New London.
Cala Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Annabelle Cormier was 4-for-4 with a double, and Ivy Davidson, Alli Campbell, Ashlynn Huff and Jade Balmer all knocked in runs for the Warriors.
Campbell pitched a complete game, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits, while striking out five Tiger batters.
New London’s Kaitlyn Lee finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Elly Manning was 2-for-4 with a triple, and Olivia Hester went 1-for-4 with a double.
Central Lee 2, Cardinal 0
The Comets had six hits but couldn’t push a run across in Central Lee. The loss pushed Cardinal back to 9-4 in conference play, a half game behind the Hawks for second place.
Mid-Prairie 8, Bellevue 0
Sydney Knebel had a career-high 13 strikeouts as Mid-Prairie bounced Bellevue in a River Valley Conference crossover game at Coe College.
