Area teams return to action in 2026
A look at the next week of events for Union area schools

Winter sports will jump right back into action when the calendar flips to 2026. Area basketball, bowling and wrestling teams enjoyed some time off after the early portion of their respective seasons, and will pick up right where they left off with a busy few weeks before postseason play.
Washington and Mt. Pleasant boys and girls basketball resume Southeast Conference play Friday. The Demons will travel to Ft. Madison while the Panthers host Keokuk. Fairfield remains off until Jan. 5 when it travels to Burlington.
Southeast Iowa Super Conference play also gets back underway Friday and Saturday. Highland and Pekin’s boys and girls teams will play the first SEISC North matchup of the new year inside the Casey’s Center in Des Moines.
Mid-Prairie girls basketball, ranked No. 12 in Class 3A, will resume its season with a matchup against Class 4A No. 10 Solon on Saturday. On the boys side, WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union will square off in a battle for second place in the SEISC North.
On the mat, Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant will participate in an invite at Keokuk on Saturday. Several Union area girls wrestling teams will compete in the EBF Invite. WACO will welcome a few area teams to its Warrior Tournament on Jan. 5.
The Washington and Mt. Pleasant bowling teams will travel to Louisa-Muscatine for an invite on Saturday. Fairfield will be in action against Keokuk at home Jan. 5.
