Golden Hawks, Panthers and Demons run in Williamsburg; Fairfield boys win in Bloomfield

WILLIAMSBURG — Area track teams were traveling around Southeast Iowa on Tuesday night. Mt. Pleasant, Washington and Mid-Prairie ran at Williamsburg, while the Fairfield, Pekin and Cardinal boys competed at Davis County.
On the girls’ side in Williamsburg, it was Mid-Prairie who had the best outing of the three teams. The Golden Hawk girls finished fourth, scoring 77 points. Mt. Pleasant was fifth, with 52, and Washington finished ninth, with 39.
Mid-Prairie’s 4X800 team of Rachel Hostetler, Brooklyn Stutzman, Tessa Brokaw and Kendal Landstrum was victorious, taking the race in 10:01.11. That beat out Washington’s Kendall Hinrichsen, Emma Horak, Lauren Horak and Iris Dahl, who finished second.
The Golden Hawks’ distance medley relay team of Myli Hershberger, Sophie Miller, Ruby Miller and Kendal Landstrum also won. That team crossed the tape in 4:32.88.
Jeorgia Evans won the 100-meter dash, crossing in 12.59 seconds, which edged out Mt. Pleasant’s Alex Scott for the top spot.
Mt. Pleasant’s Ella Ensminger won the shot put competition, throwing 38 feet, 9 inches. The Panther 4X100 team of Kiyah Sanders, Scott, Taylor Williamson and Kynlee White also won, crossing in 50.56 seconds to edge out Washington’s Layla Green, Leighton Messinger, Leighton Salazar and Jaedyn Moore.
On the boys’ side, Mid-Prairie scored 62 points for third. Washington was eighth, with 42 points, and Mt. Pleasant finished 14th, with 20.
Mid-Prairie’s Emmett Swartzentruber pulled out an exciting win in the 3200-meter run, crossing the line in 9:45.97. Teammate Preston Yutzy was under seven seconds behind him, in third.
Washington’s Greyson Hartman won the shot put competition, throwing it 57 feet, 4 inches. Burke Berry finished second, with a throw of 54-10.
Mid-Prairie’s Jayden Stafford and Washington’s Josh Anderson were able to compete three times in wheelchair events. The two went one-two in each event, with Stafford winning tee 100-meters, the 200-meters and the 400-meters, while Anderson finished second in all three. Stafford also won the 800.
In Bloomfield, Fairfield scored 141 points to narrowly sneak past Davis County. The Mustangs scored 139 to finish two points out of first. Pekin took third place, scoring 101 points, and Cardinal scored 11 points, for ninth.
The Trojans got a win from Gabriel Tejada in the 400-meter dash. He crossed the tape in 51.39 seconds.
Fairfield’s sprint medley relay took first place, crossing the line in 1:37.20. Pekin took second, finishing just over one second behind the Trojans.
Ryan Giberson won the 100-meter hurdles, taking the top spot in 15.65 seconds. Pekin’s Kasey Davis finished second. Fairfield’s Dylan Adam took first place, in 58.64, just two-tenths of a second ahead of Pekin’s Riley Smith.
The Fairfield shuttle-hurdle relay team won, in 1:03.16. Pekin was second in that event as well.
Eli Zillman won the long jump, leaping 21 feet. Spencer McCready leaped 20 feet, 8 inches for second.
