The Iowa Girls? Coaches Association named their 2015-16 All-District teams and three area players made the cut.
On the Class 4A Southeast team, two Fairfield players received recognition in Nicole Buch and Sami Fritz.
Buch, the Trojans? leading scorer this year, averaged 16 points per game, led the team with 82 assists and 74 steals and made 43.5 percent of her shots from the floor. The sophomore piloted head coach Mick Flattery?s offense efficiently and frustrated opposing defenses with her ability to deflect passes and take turnovers coast to coast for easy baskets.
Fritz was Fairfield?s leading rebounder and finished second on the team in points per game with 11.5, assists with 80 and steals with 63. A tough inside presence, the Trojan junior had a knack for grabbing offensive rebounds and keeping possessions alive, consistently getting second, third or fourth-chance baskets to keep Fairfield in the lead. She?s a quiet but efficient leader who will return next year for her senior season and be a great asset to the program as an all-around player.
?Very desrving for both Sami and Nicole,? said Fairfield head coach Mick Flattery. ?They?re tremendous leaders in their own ways, helping the program to 33 wins over the past two years. I know both will work on their games, to add new moves and make them both better individually, which in turn will make the team better.
?I?m glad they?re on our team, that?s for sure!?
The final area choice came from the Class 2A Southeast district, where Pekin?s Beth Atwood received the honor, adding to her conference player of the year award won last month.
The senior led the Panthers to the state tournament by scoring 18.4 points per game and grabbing 222 rebounds. She shot 70.8 percent from the floor on the year and 75.5 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, she?s a smart, dangerous player who can instinctively read offenses and force turnovers, evidenced by her 99 steals on the season.
Other players from area teams who were named to various teams were: Frankie Johnson, New London; Cheyenne Adamson, Highland; Kelsey Hora, Highland; Ali Butters, Mid-Prairie and Michaela Davis, Keokuk.
