Highland starts winning streak
It?s been a busy past few days for the Highland volleyball team, claiming four wins since Saturday morning.
The Huskies hosted their own volleyball tournament on Saturday, featuring multiple area teams, and Highland came out on top.
In the Saturday tournament Highland handed WACO, Columbus and Louisa-Muscatine losses in straight sets, led by Aly Stokes? 12 kills on the night.
Against Louisa-Muscatine, the Huskies won 21-14, 21-13, before beating WACO 21-18, 21-18.
In the championship match, the Huskies defeated Columbus 21-6, 21-13.
On Tuesday night, the Huskies picked up their fifth-straight win, earning a conference victory in a match at Columbus.
The first two sets were tight, with Highland claiming game 1 25-21, but falling to the Wildcats in game 2, 25-23.
Highland put on the afterburners in the final two sets, winning 25-16, 25-13.
Stokes posted 15 kills in the match, while Sydney Black led the team with 16 digs and Amy Schnoebelen led the squad with 12 digs.
Black led the team in serving, connecting on 28-of-29 serve attempts with four aces.
Highland will take on English Valleys on Thursday night.
Mid-Prairie falls in conference opener
The Golden Hawk volleyball team faced off against Durant on Tuesday night, falling in four sets against the Wildcats.
Jaedynn Evans was strong for the Hawks in the loss, posting 26 kills and 41 digs, both team highs, while four other Hawks posted at least 10 digs, led by senior Amanda Miller, who had 35.
The Hawks were without one of their regular starters due to illness, so head coach Cindy Miller was encouraged by her team?s performance.
?So I challenged several players to step out of their comfort zone and play a new role tonight,? Miller said. ?Watching the outstanding hustle from this group and the way they worked together, I can see why they almost pulled off a win against a tough Durant team.?
Mid-Prairie will take on Monticello at home on Thursday night at 7:15 p.m.
