Area volleyball roundup: Highland 1-1 at Belle Plaine triangular
Columbus wins 1 at Wapello tournament. Mid-Prairie defeats independence

A few area teams were in action on Tuesday, as non-conference play dominated for the most part. Cardinal began it’s South Central Conference season in Osceola.
Highland 2, Tri-County 0
Highland swept Tri-County in the Belle Plaine triangular. After a tough 25-23 win in the first set, the Huskies took Set 2, 25-14.
Sarah Burton had five kills in the win. Adeline Krotz finished with four kills, and Madison Beeson finished with 15 digs.
Belle Plaine 2, Highland 0
The Huskies couldn’t knock off Belle Plaine at the Plainsmen’s home tournament. Highland fell 25-16 and 25-21.
Burton had another five kills. Payton Brun and Lorelie Lueck finished with three kills. Beeson had 10 digs, and Grace Prybil dished out eight assists.
Columbus 2, Central Lee 1
The Wildcats picked up a win over Central Lee at the Wapello tournament. The Wildcats won a three-set thriller 21-18, 10-21, 15-13.
Wilton 2, Columbus 0
The Wildcats lost in straight sets to Wilton as part of the Wapello tournament. The Beavers knocked off Columbus 21-15 and 21-12.
No. 2 Holy Trinity Catholic 2, Columbus 0
The Wildcats didn’t have enough to hang with a stacked Holy Trinity team. The Crusaders won sets 21-3 and 21-2.
Clarke 3, Cardinal 0
The Comets opened up South Central Conference play with a road loss at Clarke. The Indians won three-straight sets 25-16, 25-19 and 25-22.
North Mahaska 3, No. 8 (1A) New London 1
New London started its season opener off with a 25-22 Set 1 win at North Mahaska, but the Warhawks had too much later on, taking the next three sets 25-18, 25-20 and 25-17.
No. 11 (3A) Mid-Prairie 2, Independence 1
The Golden Hawks had to grind out a three-set victory at the Independence triangular. After falling 25-20 in the first set, the Golden Hawks won Set 2, 28-26 and took Set 3, 15-7.
