Wilton and Williamsburg were the sites of a pair of Saturday volleyball tournaments this weekend, and that gave a few Union area teams a chance to battle against each other for the first time.
Winfield-Mt. Union found itself across the net with a couple of familiar teams in Wilton. Mt. Pleasant knocked off WMU 21-11 and 21-15 for its only victory of the tourney, while Highland fell to the Wolves 21-27 and 21-6.
WMU, came into the tourney at 6-1, which included a three-game sweep over WACO on Thursday night, and a 21-8, 21-13 victory over Cardinal in the English Valleys tournament the weekend prior.
The Wolves went 2-3 at the tournament, beating local rivals Highland and Mediapolis. The Wolves’ win over Mediapolis came in two sets, 21-16 and 21-15.
Mt. Pleasant defeated only WMU in the tourney. The Panthers fell in two sets against Wilton (22-20, 21-17), Mediapolis (21-17, 21-17) and Burlington (21-17, 21-14).
Highland went 0-4 in the tournament, falling to Burlington, Mediapolis, WMU and Wilton.
Fairfield scooped up one win at the Williamsburg tournament on Saturday. The Trojans had a big two-set victory over Des Moines Lincoln, winning 22-20 and 21-15.
The Trojans lost in a three-setter against West Liberty, falling 14-21, 21-18, 15-9. Fairfield fell 21-17, 21-7 to Beckman Catholic and 21-14, 23-21 against Des Moines Christian.
