Area wrestlers battle in Fort Madison
Columbus/WMU leads Union area with 4th-place finish

FORT MADISON — Fort Madison High School welcomed in a boatload of wrestlers on Saturday, as 23 teams competed in the Bloodhounds’ home invitational.
It was a strong day for Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union. The Wildcats finished fourth place, scoring 328 points.
Russel Coil had a monster day for the Wildcats, winning the 285-pound bracket and scoring 50 team points.
Coil won six matches on the day, five of which came by pinfall. Coil’s championship match ended via injury, as Prairie City-Monroe’s Kaden Clark had to forfeit via injury.
Columbus had one third-place finisher, as Ty Scorpil took bronze at 126 pounds.
Scorpil won his first five matches of the day, including four pins. His only loss came in a 2-1 decision against Dubuque Hempstead’s Evan Bratten in the semifinals.
Washington finished 12th on the day, scoring 217 points. The Demons were led by Aaron Boone, who took the 132-pound bracket.
Boone won seven matches on the day, including four pins and two technical falls. Boone’s only other win was the championship match against Benton’s Elijah Kupka, a match Boone won by a 7-2 decision.
Chase Greiner was second at 157 pounds. Greiner had five wins on the day, all by pinfall.
Greiner’s only loss came against Fort Madison’s Nolan Riddle in the 157-pound championship. Riddle won that match 9-4.
New London finished 16th place as a team. The Tigers’ best finisher was Kane Forseen, who took second place at 120 pounds.
Forseen had three pins on the day, including an 11-second pin over Mediapolis’ Zander Johnson in the opening round.
Forseen’s only loss was a technical fall against Clear Creek-Amana’s Cale Nash in the championship.
New London’s second-best finish came at 132 pounds, where Gage Burden took fourth place.
Cardinal finished just one spot behind New London, in 17th. The Comets were led by Isaac Cox, who finished fourth place at 285 pounds.
Highland was one spot behind Cardinal, at 18th place. The Huskies’ best finish was at 126 pounds, where Brock Thomann took sixth.
Van Buren County finished 22nd overall. Tyler Stoltz was the Warriors’ best finisher, taking 11th at 144 pounds.
