Area wrestling teams take part in SEISC tournament

Three area wrestling teams participated in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference tournament Saturday, Jan. 28, at Cardinal. Out of 12 schools taking part, Columbus finished in fifth place, WACO came in eighth and Highland followed in ninth place.

Individual top place finishers from Columbus were Tucker Morrison, who placed first in the 170 weight division, Jarod Kadel finished in second in the 106 weight class, Cory Stewart from Highland came in second in the 132 weight class, and Cody Crawford from WACO came in first place in the 285 weight class.

Kadel scored 18 team points for the day. He had a bye in the quarterfinals before winning by fall over Jordan Riherd from Mediapolis by fall in 3:03. He lost by an 8-3 decision to Dan Meeker from Wapello in the first place match.

Chase Wheeler (113) came in sixth place and scored three team points. He lost the quarterfinals by fall in 0:26 to Samuel Loyd from New London.

He lost the consolation semifinals to Cullen Klebe from Highland by fall in 0:20 and lost the fifth place match by fall in 1:08 to Scott Christofferson.

Armando Quiroz (120) came in fourth place and scored 14 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Aiden Housman in 2:58.

He lost the semifinals by fall in 3:23 to Chase Kruse from Louisa-Muscatine. He won the consolation semifinals by fall over Adam Smith from Van Buren in 1:12 and lost the third-place match by fall to Aaron Slaughter from Lone Tree in 3:18.

Jesus Jiminez (126) lost the quarterfinals by fall to Julian Wikoff from New London in 0:28 and lost the first consolation round by fall in 3:08 to Jales Collins from WACO.

Jose Cerezo (132) came in fifth place and scored 10 team points. He lost the quarterfinals by a 10-0 major decision to Cory Stewart from Highland.

He won the first consolation round by fall in 3:51 over Aidan Franklin from Van Buren. He lost to Reese Thornburg from Mediapolis by a 4-2 decision and won the fifth-place match by fall over Noel Martinez from Cardinal in 2:18.

Juanito Piper scored one team point. He won the qualifying round by an 18-5 major decision over Max McCulley from Louisa-Muscatine.

He lost the quarterfinals by fall in 4:57 to Levi Tripses from Lone Tree and lost the first consolation round by a 7-4 decision to Kade Chance from Cardinal.

Felix Solis (145) came in fourth place and scored 14 team points. He won by fall over Ethan Walker from West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville in 1:14.

He lost the semifinals by fall in 1:58 to Austin Leopard from Louisa-Muscatine. He won the consolation semifinals by fall over Joey Collier from WACO in 1:17 and lost the third-place match by fall in 2:26 to Remmy Benz from Mediapolis.

JT Cunningham (152) scored two team points. He won the qualifying round by fall over Hunter Donaldson from WACO in 0:46.

He lost the quarterfinals by fall in 0:49 to Clayton Meeker from Wapello and lost the first consolation round to Dan Burton from Highland by fall in 2:12.

Morrison scored 26 team points for the day. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Ethan Diephuis from Van Buren in 0:43.

He won the semifinals by fall over Samuel Kessel from Louisa-Muscatine in 1:15 and pinned Levi Eberhardt from Mediapolis in 0:56 in the first place match.

For Highland, Klebe (113) place fourth and scored 14 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall in 1:33 over Christofferson from WACO.

He lost the semifinals by fall in 1:33 to Devon Meeker from Wapello. He won the consolation semifinals by fall in 0:20 over Wheeler from Columbus and lost the third place match to Cody Calvelage from Louisa-Muscatine by fall in 4:42.

Stewart (132) scored 17 team points. He won the quarterfinals by a 10-0 major decision over Cerezo from Columbus.

He won the semifinals by a 7-2 decision over Zach Hammes from Pekin and lost the first place match to Javis Krieger from New London by a 10-4 decision.

Brady Hahn (138) came in fourth place and scored 12 team points. He won the quarterfinals by fall over Gabe Carter from New London in 3:39.

He lost the semifinals to Caleb Stoltz from Van Buren by a 4-3 decision. He won the consolation semifinals by a 15-8 decision over Chance from Cardinal and lost the third-place match to Tripses from Lone Tree by a 10-2 major decision.

Burton (152) came in fifth place and scored 10 team points. He lost the quarterfinals in sudden victory 3-1 to Kaden Baker from Pekin.

He won the first consolation round by fall in 2:12 over Cunningham from Columbus. He lost the consolation semifinals by fall in 1:22 to Adam Starkweather from Louisa-Muscatine and won the fifth-place match by fall in 0:39 over Drew Chiprez from West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville.

For WACO, Christofferson (113) came in fifth place and scored seven team points. He lost the quarterfinals by fall in 1:33 to Klebe from Highland.

He lost the consolation semifinals to Calvelage from Louisa-Muscatine by fall in 2:56 and won the fifth place match by fall over Wheeler from Columbus in 1:08.

Jaden Williams (120) scored two team points. He won the qualifying round by fall over Hunter Christy from West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville in 1:46.

He lost the quarterfinals by fall in 1:01 to Drayven Fenton from Mediapolis and lost the first consolation round to Adam Smith from Van Buren by fall in 4:33.

Collins (126) came in fifth place and scored nine team points. He lost the quarterfinals by fall in 3:03 to Max Mashek from Louisa-Muscatine.

He won the first consolation round by fall in 3:08 over Jiminez from Columbus. He lost the consolation semifinals by fall to Wayne Briggs from West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville in 5:15 and won the fifth-place match by an 11-2 major decision over Zack Madoerin from Lone Tree.

Chase Hesseltine (132) lost the qualifying round by a 17-9 major decision to Noel Martinez from Cardinal.

Christian Tennant (138) lost the qualifying round by fall in 3:24 to Gabe Carter from New London.

Collier (145) came in fifth place and scored seven team points. He lost the quarterfinals by fall in 0:18 to Reno Chiri from New London.

He lost the consolation semifinals by fall in 1:17 to Solis from Columbus and won the fifth-place match in 1:59 by fall over Ethan Walker from West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville.

Donaldson (152) lost the qualifying round to Cunningham by fall in 0:46.

Adrian Unternahrer (160) lost the quarterfinals by fall in 0:29 to Rogan Pforts from Wapello and lost the first consolation round by a 4-1 decision to Drake Smith from West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville.

Kade McKinney (220) came in fourth place and scored 10 team points. He received a bye in the quarterfinals. He lost the semifinals by fall in 2:40 to Jekell Duerre from West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville.

He won the consolation semifinals by fall over Gabe Tedrow from Van Buren in 1:34. He lost the third-place match to Will Gonzalez-Tapetillo from Cardinal by a 3-2 decision.

Crawford scored 24 team points. He received a bye in the quarterfinals. He won the semifinals by fall over Max Wetzel from Louisa-Muscatine in 1:23.

He won the first-place match by fall over Drake Fox from West Burlington-Notre Dame-Danville in 3:02.
