Area XC competes at Pekin Invitational
New London boys leads area boys’ teams, Pekin lead girls’ teams

PACKWOOD — Four Union area teams competed at the Wildwood Park Cross Country Meet last Thursday, hosted by Pekin.
On the day, Danville-New London led the boys area squad with a final score of 27. Fairfield followed in fourth place with 114 points, while Pekin (182) and Van Buren County (188) followed in seventh and eight.
For the girls teams, host Pekin led with a first place finished of 46 points. Fairfield took third at 68 points, Danville-New London ended fifth with 119 points and Cardinal followed with 179 points. Van Buren also competed with two runners.
On the boys side, Danville-New London was led by AJ Bonnesen. He finished with a time of 15:57, good enough for first-place. Rylan Martin clocked a time of 16:32 for third. Carter Fesler crossed the line at 16:48 for fifth. Jackson Shacklett ran a 17:33 for ninth. Talan Whaley finished 11th for 17:48. Cauy Garrett was 19th with a time of 18:20. Isaac Shinn was 30th, Carter Buck 36th and Parker Buck 38th.
Fairfield was led by Nate Konczal. Konczal finished 15th with a time of 18:07. Riley Perkins finished 18th after running 18:19. Ben Boatright ended in 22nd with a time of 18:33. Dayton Mauck finished 32nd, Gabe Tejada 44th and Clae Cass 65th.
Brady McWhirter paced Pekin with a sixth-place finish after clocking a time of 17:02. Cole Millkin was 34th, Ben Guise finished 37th, Dylan Sobaski 74th and Brayden Wages 84th.
Lincoln Bainbridge led Van Buren with a 12th place finish, crossing the finish line in 18:01. Isaiah Meek finished 43rd, Ollie Tackett 48th, Grant Lilley 54th, Blaine Benjamin 72nd and Keaten Kennedy 77th.
For the girls, Pekin’s Chloe Glosser was the top finisher, blistering to a time of 19:18. Lauren Steigleder followed in third with a time of 19:49. Brooke Miller finished sixth with a 21:43. Audrey Fariss was seventh, posting a time of 21:57. Brooke Sylvester was 35th, Lexi Swearingen 42nd, Renae Eubanks 43rd and Teagan Swearingen was 69th.
Carley Seeley led the Trojan girls with a eighth-place finish, running a 21:59. Malena Bloomquist ended in 17th with a 22:39. Caroline Van Pelt ran to 21st. Makenzie Kraemer was 25th, Bailey Belzer 26th, Paige Bisgard 28th and Alyia Abbott 31st.
Alaina Gourley led Danville-New London with a second-place finished and a time of 19:49. Kamryn Sherwood finished 11th with a time of 22:09. Penelepe Sowell ended in 46th, Macie Wagner 48th, Ava Ourth 49th, Celia Horn 51st, Ryann Logan 63rd and Madelyn Buck 75th.
Leading Cardinal was Ava Ferrell in 20th with a time of 23:03. Alexis Bissell was 34th, Abigail Durflinger 52nd, Lauren Sloan 56th, Makenzi Preston-Strasko 70th, Kyran Spees 57th, Alijah Frase 59th and Cayden Courtney 64th.
For Van Buren, Rylee Philips finished 30th with a time of 23:41 and Ashley Fennel ended in 37th.
