All three Union area big schools played in scrimmages this weekend to get set for the new year. Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant and Washington all had a tune up before they each hit the road next weekend.
Fairfield took on another area team, Pekin, in their scrimmage at the end of 'Meet the Trojans night” on Friday. Washington hosted Class 4A Muscatine on Friday night, and Mt. Pleasant played a full scrimmage at West Burlington-Notre Dame on Saturday morning.
'I thought it went great,” says Washington head coach James Harris. 'It's always good to play someone else and to be challenged coming out of summer camp. It helps us see where we are as a team.”
The area's three big schools will be playing similar schedules through the first two weeks. All three teams start the year on the road, with Fairfield traveling northwest to Knoxville, Mt. Pleasant heading north to play No. 10 Clear Creek-Amana and Washington going north as well to play Marion, another Class 4A school.
The three schools will all be playing at home in Week 2. The Trojans host CCA, Mt. Pleasant hosts No. 6 Pella, and Washington hosts Oskaloosa.
