Both Mid-Prairie and Pekin could clinch playoff spots this week, as both Class 2A District 6 and Class A District 5 are going down to the final two weeks of the season.
Mid-Prairie could polish off the district championship with a home win over a tough Mediapolis team this week. The Golden Hawks could still have to beat West Burlington-Notre Dame to go unbeaten in the district, but could not lose it if they take down the Bulldogs in Week 7.
Pekin, which plays Columbus at the end of the year, would lock up the district title with a win over Danville this week. The Panthers could still get the top seed in the district with a loss, just as long as Wapello wins out to create a three-way tie.
Sigourney-Keota has a big game this week as well. The Cobras could move into second place alone in Class 1A District 6 by beating Durant and having Iowa City Regina take care of business against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
The Cobras still have to play Cardinal to close out the regular season next week. This Friday, the Comets will be in a battle with the only other winless team in the district, as Cardinal travels northeast to play Louisa-Muscatine.
Meanwhile, Van Buren County looks to spoil Wapello’s district chances with a big home game, and WACO hosts Springville in a non-district Class 8-Player game.
Winfield-Mt. Union doesn’t play this week because of Lone Tree’s cancellation of the season. New London would have played at BGM this week, and Highland would have taken on Columbus in Riverside, but both the Tigers and Huskies have called off the varsity schedule as well.
