MT. PLEASANT — Iowa Wesleyan has a new leader in the sport of women’s volleyball. Ashley Miller was named the new head coach of the Tiger volleyball program on Monday. She will take over immediately.
Miller comes to Iowa Wesleyan from William Penn University, where she spent the last two years as a graduate assistant. She was a four-year member of the William Penn volleyball team in college where she made the All-Conference team three times.
“I am very excited to be given this opportunity as the next head coach at Iowa Wesleyan,” Miller said. “The volleyball program has the potential to do big things, and I am very eager to see it all come together.”
The Tiger volleyball team is less than three months removed from the end of the one-time spring season. Iowa Wesleyan went 1-15 on the year, winning the season opener before dropping 15 straight.
Miller will take the reins in the school’s first year back in the NAIA. The Tigers will compete as an independent school this year in volleyball.
“We are thrilled to have Ashley join our athletic department and university,” said Derek Zander, vice president for advancement and athletics. “Throughout the interview process, Ashley stuck out as our top candidate because of her passion for student-athletes and knowledge of the game of volleyball. With her leadership, we are excited to watch this program grow as we transition to full membership within the NAIA."
It’s a short turnaround for the Tigers, who open the regular season in early September. Iowa Wesleyan will be back on the court at Ruble Arena for a pair of scrimmages against Eureka College and Southeastern Community College on Saturday, Aug. 28.
