MT. PLEASANT — Mt. Pleasant senior Charice Auwerda will be off to Iowa Central Commumity College next fall to play women’s soccer.
Auwerda signed her letter of intent last week at the Mt. Pleasant Community High School Media Center, surrounded by friends, family and coaches.
Last spring, Auwerda helped lead the Panther girls to a 7-7 overall record and a 6-4 Southeast Conference mark. Auwerda scored 18 goals on the year, and led the team with 51 total points. She played every game on the schedule, and started 13 of 14.
Auwerda says she went through a long and careful process before she finally ended up becoming a Triton.
“It's been a really long process, but my parents and I have been toughing it out,” Auwerda said. “I think that Iowa Central is the best fit for my family and I, and I'm really excited to play for this team.”
Auwerda started playing soccer at eight years old, joining the Mt. Pleasant Recreational program before playing for the Pink Panthers.
“Ever since then, I’ve been playing a lot,” Auwerda said. “I really like playing it.”
Auwerda will be joining an Iowa Central team that went 9-5-3 last season. The Tritons were 8-0-1 in conference play.
Auwerda will be studying business at Iowa Central. She and the rest of the Mt. Pleasant girls still have one more spring ahead of them. The Panther girls soccer season kicks back off in early April.
