Banks breaks long dry spell at CJ Speedway

COLUMBUS JUNCTION — One of CJ Speedway’s most popular drivers dumped a bucket of water on his long dry spell Friday.

Brandon Banks’ victory in the Stewart & Sons Fuel IMCA Modified feature happened with a new car that had the bugs chased out of it a week ago. With the kinks out, Banks sent notice that he intends to compete for the win in the remainder of 2021.

Banks shot out front from a second-row start and appeared to be on cruise control until Jarrett Brown and Derrick Stewart pressured Banks in the late going with Brown alongside Banks late.

Defending Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Car track champion Adam Bell raced to his first win of the 2021 season. Bell used the entire track on his way to the front from a fifth-row start. While Bell stretched his lead, a furious four-car battle for second swapped positions every lap. At the finish, second place went to Shane Richardson.

There was action of all types from a 20-car field in the Huston Brothers Trucking IMCA Sportmod feature. Starting in the sixth row, young Eddyville driver Logan Anderson shot to the front and held off all challengers for his tenth win of the year.

Daniel Wauters continued his mastery of the NAPA Stores/CJ Auto Parts IMCA Hobby Stock class. A midrace caution saw leader Randy LaMar head to the pits with a tire down. Wauters took control on the restart and, with the win, stretched his point lead.

The Midwest Towing IMCA Sport Compacts feature saw Logan Clausen score his first CJ win by finishing ahead of Shane Barnes and Christian Grady.

Friday is another action-packed night with the first green flag at 7:15 p.m. with hot laps.
