Baseball roundup: No. 1 Mid-Prairie wins seventh straight

No. 1 (Class 2A) Mid-Prairie 6, West Branch 2
Mid-Prairie scored four runs in the second and one in the third to propel itself to victory on Friday night.
Cain Brown led the Golden Hawks with two hits and two RBIs in the victory. Dylan Henry, Collin Miller and Camron Pickard each had a hit as well.
Alex Bean and Landry Gingerich gave up a combined two runs (one earned), four walks and eight strikeouts.
Mid-Prairie 6, West Branch 0
Mid-Prairie doubled up on West Branch on Friday.
The Golden Hawks scored four in the first three innings and added two more between the fifth and sixth for the shutout victory.
Cain Brown, Dylan Henry and Alex Bean all had two hits. Karson Grout finished with two RBIs in the win. Brady Weber and Brock Harland each had one RBI as well.
Brown, Weber and Joe Hall gave up just two hits combined, two walks and amassed 14 strikeouts.
Van Buren County 17, Danville 12
Van Buren County trailed Danville 8-7 heading into the third inning, but the Warriors went on to score 10 through the third and sixth innings to top the Bears on Thursday.
Taylor Sprouse led the Warriors going 4-for-5 with seven RBIs. Tyler Stolz, Dominic Meierotto, Dylan Richardson and Jackson Manning all finished with one hit. Manning had three RBIs and Richardson one.
Lucas Fett also tallied an RBI in the win.
On the hill, Meierotto, Manning, Izaak Loeffler and Fett gave up a combined 12 runs (10 earned) on nine hits, seven walks and seven strikeouts.
Van Buren County 2, Mediapolis 1
Van Buren County topped Mediapolis in a nail-biter on Friday.
Anthony Duncan and Taylor Sprouse both had two hits in the victory.
Izaak Loeffler tallied the Warriors one RBI.
Pekin 10, Lone Tree 8
Pekin led Lone Tree 3-0 for two innings on Thursday. Lone Tree took the lead with four in the top of the fifth, but the Panthers were able to retake the lead with a pair in the bottom half of the inning, 5-4.
Three from the Lions in the sixth put them back on top 7-5, but Pekin tied it up, 7-7, with a pair in the bottom of the sixth.
Lone Tree broke the tie with a run in the top of the seventh, but Pekin went on to score three in the bottom of the seventh.
Deklan Hampton and Will Adam led the Panthers with three hits each in the win. Adam had two RBIs as well. Levi Coleman and Ben Ehret had two RBIs each. Hampton finished with one RBI.
JaeDon Wolver, Ehret, Hudson VanEnglenhoven and Sven Dahlstrom gave up a combined a eight run (six earned) on six hits, seven walks and 12 strikeouts.
Winfield-Mt. Union 6, Highland 5
Winfield-Mt. Union walked off Highland on Thursday after Andrew Brown was hit by a pitch.
Highland and WMU were tied at 5-5 heading into the seventh inning before the walk off HBP.
Preston Prior went 3-for-4 for the Wolves.
Cael Phillips, Grant Watson, Riley Kaalberg and Kohlby Newsom all notched two hits in the game. Phillips, Cole Milks and Brown all finished with one RBI.
Kaalberg and Trevor Phillips threw a combined eight innings, giving up five runs (five earned) on five hits, four walks and 11 strikeouts.
For Highland, William Dunbar had two hits and two RBIs.
Peyton Yeggy threw on the hill, giving up six runs (three earned) on nine hits and five strikeouts.
Cardinal 15, BGM 12
Cardinal lead the Bears 6-1 after two innings of action on Saturday and then 12-4 after the fourth.
The Comets scored three more in the top of the seventh to bring their total to 15 and were able to hang on as BGM scored six in the bottom of the seventh.
Gavin Ware led the Comets going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Tatem Telfer, Josh Courtney, Carson Kenney, Drake Durflinger and Braden Ballard all notched two hits. Ballard had four RBIs in the win as well. Telfer finished with three RBIs. Courtney and Durflinger both had two RBIs.
Cardinal 12, Chariton 5
Cardinal got some payback on Chariton in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday.
The Comets and Chargers were tied 4-4 heading into the fourth, but after a scoreless fifth, Cardinal scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal it.
Carson Kenney and Gannon Macqueen both went 2-for-4 to lead Cardinal. Macqueen finished with a pair of RBIs. Drake Durflinger had one hit with two RBIs as well.
Cayden Courtney pitched 6.2 innings, giving up five runs (five earned) on eight his, two walks with two strikeouts.
Hillcrest Academy 14, Wapello 0
Hillcrest Academy had no problem with Wapello on Thursday. The Ravens scored eight in the first two innings and added another six between the fourth and fifth for the win.
Liam Schrock, Luke Schrock and Grant Bender all had three hits to lead the Ravens. Rowan Miller led the Ravens with a whopping five RBIs in the victory as well. Bender finished with two RBIs as well as Jace Rempel.
Hillcrest Academy 4, Winfield-Mt. Union 2
Hillcrest Academy and Winfield-Mt. Union were knotted at 1-1 after the first inning on Friday.
The Ravens took the lead after a run in the third and added two more in the fifth to seal it.
Luke Schrock went 3-for-3 for the Ravens with one RBI. Rowen Miller finished with two hits and three RBIs.
Schrock and Phoenix Anderson combined for two runs (one earned) on five hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
For WMU, Kohlby Newsom had two hits in the game. Cole Milks had the Wolves’ lone RBI.
On the hill, Cael Phillips and Andrew Brown gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits, two walks and five strikeouts.
Chariton 5, Cardinal 4
Cardinal led Chariton 4-0 heading into the sixth inning on Thursday, but the Chargers scored five between the sixth and seventh frame to steal the victory from the Comets.
Tatem Telfer and Gavin Ware both went 2-for-4 in the loss. Telfer had one RBI as well and Josh Courtney finished with a pair of RBIs.
On the mound, Telfer and Carson Kenney combined for five runs (five earned) on nine hits and nine strikeouts.
Montezuma 2, Keota 1
Keota came up one run short of Montezuma on Friday.
Dalton Dodd, Chase Sieren and Tanner Waterhouse each had one hit in the loss. Cole Kindred had the Eagles one RBI.
Aiden Anderson threw a complete game, giving up zero earned runs on one hit, four walks and 10 strikeouts.
No. 7 (Class 1A) Burlington Notre Dame 8, New London 1
New London led Burlington Notre Dame 1-0 after four innings, but the Nikes went on to score seven in the fifth and one more in the sixth to top the Tigers.
Albia 10, Cardinal 5
Cardinal led Albia 2-1 after the first inning on Friday, but the Comets couldn’t sustain the lead.
Cardinal got back in front in the fifth with a run to make it 4-3, but the Blue Demons went on to score seven in the sixth to win it.
Drake Durflinger led the Comets after going 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.
Jacob Figueroa, Gavin Ware and Durflinger gave up a combined 10 runs (eight earned) on six hits, five walks and had nine strikeouts.
Grand View Christian 9, Cardinal 1
Grand View Christian scored a run in all but two innings against Cardinal on Saturday.
Cardinal gave up two runs in the second, third and fourth innings. The Thunder went on to score three more between the fifth and sixth to solidify the victory.
The Comets got one in the bottom of the sixth.
Cayden Courtney, Tatem Telfer and Quinn Snyder each finished with a hit for the Comets.
Louisa-Muscatine 6, Pekin 4
Louisa-Muscatine led Pekin 2-1 heading into the third on Friday. The Panthers were never able to get on top as the Falcons scored one in the fourth and three more in the sixth.
Pekin put three on the board in the seventh, but that’s all they could get.
Tanner Adrian led Pekin with one hit in the game and two RBIs. Deklan Hampton and Hudson VanEnglenhoven both had an RBI as well.
North Mahaska 12, Pekin 5
Pekin held a 2-1 lead after the second inning, but the Warhawks went on to score 11 in the final four innings to win it on Saturday.
Hudson VanEnglenhoven had two hits for the Panthers. Will Adam finished with two RBIs in the loss and Cade Parmenter had one.
VanEnglenhoven, Nolan Glick and Joseph Coates gave up a combined 12 runs (eight earned) on eight hits, five walks and 11 strikeouts.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 9, Pekin 6
EBF led Pekin 4-0 after three innings and never trailed in the game on Saturday. Pekin was able to tie the game at 6-6 after the top of the sixth, but the Rockets scored the final runs with three in the bottom half of the inning.
Levi Coleman, Deklan Hampton and Hudson VanEnglenhoven all finished with two hits for Pekin. VanEnglenhoven had three RBIs. Joesph Coates finished with two RBIs and Hampton had one.
