Baseball, softball seasons underway

Highland opened its baseball season last week with nine runs in the final three innings.
Highland 10, Louisa-Muscatine 5
Trailing in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division road game, the Huskies rallied for the win with 10 runs on nine hits.
Bill Laughlin scored four runs and went 3 for 4 with a double. Brady Hahn was 2 for 2 with a double. Cael Yeggy and Dan Burton each had a double and batted in two runs.
Hahn got the win with three strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings pitched. Burton started and fanned seven.
Mid-Prairie starts 2-1
After a season-opening 13-0 win at Keokuk, the Golden Hawks split a home doubleheader against West Liberty.
Brad Tornow fanned 11 in the five-inning Keokuk win and allowed two hits, and went 3 for 4 at the plate with a triple.
Brody Miller pitched the last four innings in the 3-2 loss to WL. Tornow hit a triple.
Keegan Gingerich pitched five innings with six Ks in the 7-5 win over WL. Kayden Reinier went 2 for 4 with two RBI.
Keota starts 2-0
The Eagles took a 6-0 win at Belle Plaine, then trounced English Valleys 9-3 at home.
Austin Waterhouse whiffed 13 against BP while Carson Sprouse had a single and a double. Colton Clarahan batted in three runs.
Sprouse got the win against EV while Clarahan had three hits.
Columbus goes 1-3
In softball, the Wildcats opened with an 11-6 win over Mediapolis, lost 2-1 to Van Buren, 11-0 to West Liberty and 8-1 to Mt. Pleasant.
Grace Conwell had three hits in the eight-inning home loss to VB.
Libby White took the loss against WL.
Quinn Scarf had the only hit against MP.
Hawks start 0-3
Mid-Prairie dropped a home doubleheader to West Liberty, 12-2 and 5-2 and lost 14-4 at Mt. Vernon.
Rylee Vercande and Georgia Nisly each had three hits in the first game against WL. Cassidy Rourke and Kylee Kos each batted in a run in the other game.
Rourke went 3 for 3 against MV with two home runs.
Keota opens 0-2
A 13-3 loss at Belle Plaine was followed by a home loss, 11-0 to EV.
