Washington High School's soccer team had one of its own recognized when the Iowa High School Coaches Association released its 2019 Boys All-State teams Tuesday.
Players are selected for all-state by a vote of the member coaches for each individual class that responded.
Ben Baughman was named honorable mention as a goalkeeper in Class 2A.
Mid-Prairie senior Jose Juarez was selected to honorable mention as a defenseman in Class 1A. The Golden Hawks were 9-4 this season.
Baughman, a senior, set a school record for saves in a game this season when he stopped 27 shots, the most since Matt Grote had 31 saves in an overtime game in 2012.
'In regulation time, I believe Ben Baughman set the record,” Washington coach Sally Hart said. 'He beat his brother's (Jacob Baughman) record of 26 against Mid-Prairie in 2014 and Thomas Zimmer's 26 in 2016 versus Keokuk.”
'I never thought I would have the possibility of that,” Baughman said after a game against Iowa City Liberty April 16. 'Twenty-seven saves in a game, wow, I didn't think was possible.”
Baughman made 176 saves this season.
