WILTON — Friday’s non-district football game between Highland and Wilton looked to be a good matchup and it followed that formula, initially.
The Huskies lost the road game to Wilton 39-14 but the first quarter ended with a 13-7 score. The Beavers stretched that six-point lead to 25-14 by halftime. Wilton tacked on another score in each of the final two quarters while holding the Huskies scoreless for the final tally of 39-14.
Connor Grinstead rushed for one Highland touchdown and threw a pass to Logan Bonebrake for the other touchdown. Grinstead completed one other pass to Bonebrake to total 36 yards passing. He also threw an interception.
Bonebrake made up for the interception with one of his own.
Brenton Bonebrake had 12 carries for 76 yards for Highland. Logan Bonebrake had seven carries for 20 yards. Grinstead totaled 55 yards on 19 carries.
Luke Miller led the Huskies defense with 9.0 tackles. Jaden Schmid accumulated 6.5 tackles and Carson Netser 6.0.
Wilton is 3-0. Highland (1-2) returns to district play Friday, hosting North Cedar (1-2).
