Benjamin’s triple-double leads Tigers past Bears

DANVILLE - New London stayed hot with their sixth-straight boys basketball win in Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division play, knocking off rival Danville 75-43 Friday.
Kade Benjamin knotted a triple-double in the win. He scored 18 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked 10 shots. Blaise Porter scored a team-high 22 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Camden Kasel added nine points.
The Tigers led 25-18 at halftime and 36-26 after three quarters before pouring in 21 points in the fourth to run away with the game.
Mid-Prairie grounds Comets
WELLMAN - The Golden Hawks won 61-51 over River Valley Conference foe Bellevue behind Carter Harmsen's double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Alex Bean added 15 points and Aidan Rath 11 as Mid-Prairie overcame a 14-11 first-quarter deficit to tie it at the half and then used a 20-13 third quarter to take control. Jackson Pennington filled the stat sheet with five points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Eagles take 2
KEOTA - Keota won two home South Iowa Cedar League games, edging Lynnville-Sully 49-47 Thursday and echoed that win with a 61-36 blasting of Iowa Valley Friday.
Thursday was a grind with a six-point lead after a quarter down to three at half, then four after the third. Both games were 19-13 after the first quarter but the Eagles had an 18-0 second against Iowa Valley.
Brady Duwa went 6-for-6 to lead Keota with 14 points Thursday and added six assists. Sam Sieren added 10 on 4-of-4 shooting. Luke Hammen and Wyatt Sieren had eight boards apiece.
Carson Sprouse poured in 21 points Friday and Hammen had 19 while Duwa produced six points, six rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block.
WACO can't pull off upset
WEST BURLINGTON - WACO made it tough for West Burlington in a South Division road game, but didn't have enough to finish in a 58-43 loss.
The Warriors jumped out to an early lead and went into halftime on top 15-11. The game was tied 28-28 at halftime, and West Burlington held a 38-37 lead after three. The Falcons tallied 20 fourth-quarter points to put the Warriors away.
Just four WACO players scored in the loss. Isaac Oswald and Simeon Reichenbach finished with 15 points apiece. Hunter Hughes scored 11, and Reece Oswald two.
Wolves take Wapello to the limit
WINFIELD - Winfield-Mt. Union nearly stunned one of the North Division's two one-loss teams, but the Indians squeaked by in the end, 44-40.
Wapello held a 12-2 lead after the first quarter, but WMU staged a furious comeback, outscoring the Indians 19-7 in the second quarter to take a 21-19 lead into the locker rooms. The game was tied 31-31 after three quarters.
Cam Buffington scored 14 points to lead the Wolves. Bryce Wade had eight. Abram Edwards had six points and 12 rebounds, and Konner Wade finished with six points.
Hillcrest can't climb past No. 9 Pekin
PACKWOOD - The Ravens lost 48-30 to the North-leading Panthers (No. 9 in Class 2A).
The Ravens led 9-5 after a quarter but Pekin went on an 8-0 run to lead 21-16 at halftime. It was 35-24 after three and Pekin slowed its offense down leading 41-27 then made seven free throws to seal the win. Brock Long 16 scored points, Chandler Stull 14, Brady Millikin 10 and Brayden Sobaski four. Sobaski had nine rebounds while Millikin had four stweals and three assists.
Eli Ours scored 16 points to lead the Ravens and John Hughes added seven while Aiden Krabill had five rebounds.
Panthers dump Wildcats
COLUMBUS JUNCTION - Columbus fell to Pekin 75-27 Thursday in a game postponed from Tuesday. Brody Frost led Columbus with seven points and Owen Watson added six. Columbus will be back in action Tuesday as they host Lone Tree.
The Panthers led 15-6 after one quarter, 37-12 at half, and 59-22 after three.
Millikin was close to a triple-, maybe even quadruple double with 12 points, 11 assists, seven steals and six rebounds. Pekin teammate Chandler Stull had 15 points and four steals, and Brock Long 14 points. Luke Long contributed 11 points and five rebounds. Cael Lyle's stat line was filled with 10 points, six rebounds and five steals.
