RIVERSIDE — Mid-Prairie boys soccer was clicking on all cylinders on Tuesday night as the Golden Hawks downed Highland 9-1 for their third straight win.
A big first-half made all the difference in the non-conference bout.
The Golden Hawks opened the game with two quick goals and kept piling it on through the final 20 minutes of the first as Highland struggled to contain the offensive pressure.
Tucker Miller, who was one of two Golden Hawks to finish the day with a pair of goals scored, dropped in one with 18:34 remaining in the opening period to make it 3-0.
Less than a minute later, Miller sent the ball into the box on a low cross, but Highland was unable to clear and instead the Huskies put it into their own net for an own goal, making it 4-0.
Mid-Prairie continued to keep pace.
At the 10:18 mark, Owen Trimpe ripped a shot from outside the box into the upper right corner of the net to increase the Golden Hawk lead to 5-0.
Mid-Prairie’s final goals of the half came off penalties.
Noah Ford and Sawyer Hough were both fouled in the box with 8:59 and 1:07 remaining to put them at the penalty spot.
The pair delivered on both shots, putting the Golden Hawks up 7-0 heading into halftime.
In the second, Highland was able to get itself on the board as Angel Avendano notched a goal, but the Huskies couldn’t make up the deficit.
The Golden Hawks added two more themselves as well.
Tucker Miller and Owen Trimpe both finished with two goals for the Golden Hawks.
Sawyer Hough, Joe Hall, Noah Ford and Jacob Flynn all scored one.
Miller, Beau Flynn and Trimpe all ended with one assist as well.
Mid-Prairie took a whopping 41 shots at goal in the victory, 20 of which were on goal.
Dylan Henry and Jacob Lynn made a combined three saves.
For Highland, Avendano finished with the lone goal.
Mid-Prairie improves to 6-4 on the season, while Highland still is searching for its first win at 0-9.
