Big night for VBC girls

KEOSAUQUA ­- The Van Buren County girls took a big step on the basketball court in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division championship race on Tuesday night. The Warriors ran away from a tough Central Lee team 55-39.

After VBC led at 13-8 after one quarter, the Warriors blew a lead right before halftime as Central Lee tied the game 22-22. VBC bounced back to lead 36-27 after three periods and won the fourth quarter 19-12.

Isabel Manning had a monster game for the Warriors. She finished the night with 29 points, 14 rebounds, 14 rebounds, five assists and two steals. Zoe Best had 13 points and Jaelyn Boley finished with five points and seven rebounds.

Central Lee star Mya Merschmann scored 20 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, but the VBC defense held her supporting cast to a combined 19 points.
