Big night for WACO

WAYLAND - It was a good night to be a WACO Warrior on Monday. The WACO girls scored a big Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division upset over No. 15 (2A) Van Buren County, rolling 68-43, and the WACO boys took down Lone Tree, 56-45.
After two-straight close calls against ranked teams, the WACO girls weren't to be denied again. They led 16-2 after one quarter, 30-17 at halftime and 50-26 after three quarters. After the initial WACO run, VBC could never come back.
The WACO girls had three players score 15 points or higher. Ellah Kissell led the way with 21 points, seven assists and five steals.
Aubri Garnsey put up 18 points in the win. Morgan Graber had 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots. Grace Coble had nine points and 10 rebounds. Molly McLaughlin finished with four points and six steals, and Katie Leichty scored one point.
Van Buren star Isabel Manning scored 25 points in the loss. Ella Jirak added seven. Ivy Davidson scored four. Kadence Nusbaum, Zo Best and Kalyn Tuttle scored two apiece, and Jaeyln Boley had one.
The WACO boys used a consistent scoring attack to beat Lone Tree. The Warriors scored 12 or more points in every quarter en route to the win.
WACO led 12-7 after one quarter, 24-18 at halftime and 42-37 after three quarters. Simeon Reichenbach finished the night with 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead the way.
Hunter Hughes scored 12 points and dished out five assists. Isaac Oswald had nine points. Vincent Jones scored seven. Reece Oswald had four. Zach Schmitz and Kolton Connelly had three each. Will Edeker scored two, and Colton Leichty finished with one.
