The area’s big schools traveled to three different wrestling tournaments on Saturday.
Trojans battle in Knoxville duals
Fairfield went 1-2 in the Knoxville duals. The Trojans beat Nevada 42-30 for their only win of the day, but fell 60-21 against Knoxville and 54-15 against North Polk.
The win over Nevada was highlighted by three-straight pins to start things off, as 190-pounder Carter Moore, 215-pounder Dre Smithburg and 285-pounder Logan Johnson each won by pinfall.
Also in that Nevada win, Julian Pumphrey secured a pin at 144 pounds. Calvin McClain pinned his man at 165 pounds, and Dain Burkhart collected a pin at 175 pounds.
Panthers take on Grinnell duals
Mt. Pleasant finished fourth at the Grinnell Duals, going 0-3 on the day.
The Panthers were defeated 51-21 against Webster City in Round 1. Mt. Pleasant was shut out 75-0 against Bondurant-Farrar in the second round, and the Panthers were defeated 53-30 by Grinnell in Round 3.
Washington 6th at Mount Vernon
The Demons scored 107 points to take sixth place at the Mount Vernon Invitational.
Washington had three second-place finishes in Mount Vernon. Caden Greiner took silver at 126 pounds. Aaron Boone was second at 132 pounds, and Chase Greiner finished second at 157.
Sigourney-Keota competed as well, taking 16th place. The Cobras’ top wrestler was Brady Clark, who took fifth at 138 pounds.
